You have purchased a well circulated 1617 Dutch Lion Daalder (Lionthaler), here's a later example in MS condition...

http://www.mkjassociates.com/cgi-bin/ilgvu...=46&lot=765

Definitely worth $10, probably $100 or more to the right person. The 1648 MS-61 example above had a pre-sale estimate of between $300-$400, and sold for $3800.

Good find!

PS - I hope we can count on you to post this on our "How Far Back Can We Go" thread if we ever get that far...

Easily worth $20...

Now that we are finally past 1726 I am standing by with a decent 1723.

1722

Here is a problem-I am leaving to Bulgaria on wednesday where I have no intrenet. Do you think I could leave a picture early and then someone can put it up when the time is right?

I PM'd you my email address, send me the photo and I'll put it up and give you credit.

Though at the glacial pace that HFBCWG usually moves, after I post my 1723 you'll have at least a month to conclude your business overseas...

I love old worn cracked coins like that. I have an 8 reale from the Maravilla shipwreck in the 1620's with a huge split in the planchet. It adds loads of character to a coin in my opinion. And I would be fairly certain your coin would bring at least and probably over $50 at auction. Heck I'd be happy to get one for that, lol.

Thanks!

Your email must have gotten mixed up in my spam folder, which I just emptied five minutes ago.

And I can find no coin on your post with the date 1722.

I'm not usually this thick... :ninja:
