alex bolotin
i have a bronze coin. on the front, there's a woman with the word "libery" on her head. on the outside of the front, there are 10 stars, and the writting on the bottom ends in "ze". on the back in the middle theres and eagle with rays coming from behind it, and a ring of 12 stars over it's head. on the top the writting says " in unitate fortitude" and on the bottom it says "pos. spiel-mark" what am i looking at, and is it worth anything? tabbs
Probably a jeton or play money, with some text in Latin, some in English, and some in German. May have been made by Lauer (Nürnberg), maybe by some other company. As far as I know, the "in unitate fortitude" (should be fortitudo) appeared on some US civil war tokens. (Edit) Here is one that probably looks a lot like yours: http://hometown.aol.com/bunnirabb1t/myhome...libertycoin.jpg The Liberty head, the eagle and the stars and stripes are obviously allusions to US symbols. Spiel-Münze means "play/gaming coin", "In Unitate Fortitudo" means something like "Strength in Unity". Whether COMPOS is a company name, or short for composition or so, I don't know ...
