Can anyone rate my new coin

I think it's cleaned VF

And with major rim dings -- matter of fact, the flattened rim areas at 11 and 5 o'clock look suspiciously like traces of jewelry mount removal and/or repair. :ninja:

I purchased a simple 50 kopeek coin for 40$. Do you think it was cleaned? Is XF an appropriate rating for this coin?

thanks

No offense, but if you paid $40 for this, how much would you pay for an identical coin which was not cleaned, has mint luster, and in AU condition (at least)? I was never particularly attached to my Nicholas II coins... Should put them on ebay.

I would pay a lot more...may be 150-200

You have to be careful, there are 1913 BC and 1913 EB 50 Kopecks, the mint mark is on the rim and 1913 BC in AU-58 is still selling for $100-150 http://www.mycoindealer.com/Nicholas-II-50...n-C-p-1512.html , but 1913 EB is selling for at least twice as much.

However, the coin purchased on ebay is BC.

1913 50K BC is a very common coin and $40 for VF is too much. You can still find VF for $10, XF for $20 and $50 can buy you a low AU. It just doesn't make sense to buy it below AU-58 in my opinion.

It is the easiest coin of this series to find in UNC, even more common than 1912 ... so, why settle for anything less?

Who says it's an XF?

Never trust the seller's rating of a coin (unless you know they are trustworthy graders of coins and you have bought from them before) - it's always just an opinion and a lot of them seem to just pluck gradres out of thin air.

From the pictures, I think it is safe to assume that the coin would grade at least XF ... why do you think not?

If you are serious, I would be quite happy to help you dispose of your Nicholas II collection, especially in Au, Unc., and MS condition. :ninja:

In the future, it would be nice if you would not copy & paste other people's text, but use the "reply" button (not "add reply") instead. Then the other text will be automatically quoted, and you can edit it as you wish. Otherwise, it is very hard to tell where your answer begins and the quoted text finishes.

Looks like these more common things are going through the roof! Here's a nice 1912 poltina going for over $400... ;)
