Coin Roll Hunting

I have never tried coin roll hunting so I need some advice. On the beach this morning I found a very nice Blackberry cell phone device. I called the the last number that came up and left a message. A little bit later I got a call back from the owner who was still in town staying at a motel near the beach. I told him I was still on the beach detecting and he could come and get his device. He did, and as I went to shake his hand he slipped me two $20's!! I said there was no need, but he insisted.

So, now to my question. I'd like to purchase some coin rolls with that money. Are any of them better than others as to the chance of finding older coins? I mean Quarter or Dimes or Nickels or Pennies??

PENNIES PENNIES PENNIES

Penny rolls tend to have the oldest coins. I've taken out an 1895 Indian Head cent. Also there is a big chance of wheaties-ussualy one out of five rolls. Halfs are your best chance for silver, but with $20 you should go with the cents.

I'd stay away from those British coins. You should get yourself a bunch of rolls of U.S. Cents instead. :ninja:

Seriously, though, I concur! Cents are the way to go to get the largest variety and chance of finding something interesting.

If your after silver half dollars are the best chance. Nickels and cents are good for a mix. When I was a kid we used to go to the bank and buy a roll of quarters, search it for needed coins and return the rest for a roll of dimes and work our way down to cents.

I just did my first run. $20 worth of pennies and nickels. I was surprised at the number of american pennies, in a dozen rolls I found three with dates between 1944 and 1960.

My roommate thinks I am crazy I think, but I enjoy it :ninja: By the way, does anyone have a link to the comic strip where the guy asks the bank teller for "ten thousand pennies please"? I have searched this forum and I can't seem to find it anymore ;) Thanks.

Kristofer is the member you're thinking of. He'd love to know someone else besides him thinks its funny :ninja:

Also, be on the look out for Dockwalliper's coin comics if he ever publishes them again like he says he will...
