HuDey
Hi! What years correspond to the various boxes that the US Mint issued to package the large size (77MM) Presidential Inaugural & Peace Medals in? I've seen white box with blue lid, white box with white lid, tan (grocery bag color) lid, dark brown, black jewelers type (not sure this was original), etc. What type of filler should have been used with each type of box? (ie. velvet, foam, cotton, paper, etc. & when did they start including the plastic easels & using unsealed plastic bags, then sealed plastic wrappers, etc?) I know you can't positively date the strike of the medal based soley on its box, but if all the packaging appears original to the coin then it does have more significance in dating the strike. Thanks!

Thanks! The medals did not come with the Jewelers boxes, you needed to buy those.
exonumia
While I have LOTS of these US Mint medal restrikes, I've never paid any attention to the boxes, as the medals could easily get moved from box to box. However, if you'd like to do a study on them, and track the sales date, that would be interesting information! Of course, that is the problem, at this late date, tracking the actual sales date, when getting these from the original buyer...
