Hi all members . I have been in contact with some of you before on ebay, and I owe thanks and regards both to sigistens and Steve Moulding. I am an old world collector in need of numismatic help for exact Bitkin numbering of some of my Roubles.

First :Fox face 1729 , 28.8. gr , rather skillfully mounting removals on reverse, but obverse with this ribbon structure I never saw in coin archives or Grand Duke or else where. Hoping for expert comments.

Bitkin's catalog is a hybrid between die variety and type, so it is unlikely that you will find your exact match there, since it does not have too many die varieties, other than what you see in Grand Duke.

The good place to look is Diakov's catalog and now Petrunin's catalog (this catalog is specifically for Peter II).

If I have time today, I will take a look. Otherwise I will do it when I get back from my trip.

Hi,

I just showed this rouble to Mr. Bitkin, he said this kind is not in his catalog. There is only one side of this kind presented in #117.

He recommends to go to the one book that has more details about roubles of Peter II than any other catalog. It is a book of Yuri Petrunin. I don't have it on hands, but you can write to Petrunin about it on his e-mail - yuriypetrunin@yandex.ru If there is no this kind in his book then it is quite rare one.

By the way, for your information. On our site we are getting ready to make a new section of Mr. Bitkin where he will present some varieties of coins that were not presented in his second edition (we've got his agreement on it). He thinks it would be useful. Plus it will be on English too, as it was done in his last catalog. Also there will be an information about new prices from auctions that took place since the last publication of his book.

With respect,

Alex

Your coin is Petrunin 155.2

Petrunin thinks it is Severin 1015? and Ilyin-Tolstoy 22.

Rarity rating is "scarce", just like the rest of the "fox face" roubles, except for the two (out of 42), that are marked as "rare".

This is a wonderful idea.

If I might make a suggestion, I think it would be useful if these additions to the catalog could be saved in zip format for easier downloading and to reduce the strain on your webserver.

Hi Ola ! Nice to hear from you again. It's been a while! Hope you're taking good care of that 1763 Kopeck :ninja:

Oh Yes Steve I have it still !

Very nice to hear your cybervoice ! How about foxface ? fake or real ?

The style looks okay to me. I see nothing that causes me to doubt authenticity (even though I cannot find an exact die match in my references).

IgorS says it is Petrunin-155.2

I do not have this book. Maybe your coin is illustrated there?

I just got mail from Petrunin. He told me it was authentic, that it was a rare die variety only seen twice by him the last 5 years. he confirms the number 155.2.

I am very grateful for all help I got from Forum members in this matter !
