Where to get Silver Austrian Philharmonic

Kristofer

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was at the Austrian Mint's site and I cannot for the life of me find a single place selling the Silver Austrian Philharmonic, I know it's new but any ideas?

They are now making a silver example, it was only just released in the past few days, if it is even out.

That would probably be why I can't find any references to it and why Kristofer can't find any yet.

The piece is even advertised on the Austrian Mint's front page, so to say.

http://www.austrian-mint.com/ or http://www.muenze-oesterreich.at/

Some more detailed info in English is here:

None of the bullion pieces can be purchased that way, I think. The "Gold Phil" is not listed either. Usually you can buy such "investment" pieces from banks or precious metal dealers - basically the same sources that also sell, say, the silver Eagle or Koala for example.

Do you think an American Bank would sell an Austrian Philharmonic?

Dunno - here in Germany, banks will either not sell silver/gold coins at all, or they will (like most bullion dealers) sell various pieces from various countries. If you don't know where to buy the piece, you could do a search here http://bullionpage.com/ for example ...

(Edit) This German dealer http://www.silber-werte.de/ apparently has the Silver Phil in stock. I don't have any experience with them though.

That's a great website, thanks!

Side note - This may not really be interesting for collectors in the US, but a major German coin dealer offers the piece at a introductory price of €10 (until mid-Feb). Which is less than the current silver value of about €11.90/oz. http://www.mdm.de/wien

Note that MDM sells a lot of coins but also many "coins". :ninja: And of course, not all their prices are that interesting ...

There are about a dozen german dealers trying to sell the silver philharmoniker

Some in 500 pc lots and most below the price of the Canadian Maple and the American Eagle

It is reported that in a box of 500 about 80 had shaken out of their badly designed plastic wrapper

and that the mint hopes to have tubes by april

In the meantime capsules or even empty maple tubes are being used it is reported

boxes of 500

http://silber-philharmoniker.cshop.de/inde...amp;angelbote=1

apiece and per 100

http://www.muenzdiscount.de/shop/index.php...uenzen-1oz.html

apiece

http://www.edelmetalle-münzen.de/

I looked at the distributor for Austrian coins Schoeller and he does not even seem to bother to offer them

Do note that seven percent tax is included which is not due for export I think
