RW Julian
This piece, graded VF+ by the seller, is holed and plugged. It also appears that details on the bust have been re-engraved. The seller is asking $999 and carefully avoids any discussion of these major problems. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=260207601467 RWJ

Buy it and you're stuck with it. "RETURN POLICY: SATISFACTION GUARANTEED! If for any reason you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, you may return it in original packaging and original condition within 7 days of receipt of the merchandise for a FULL REFUND of the purchase price less S&H and 10% restocking fee. Buyer is responsible for return shipping charges. NO RETURNS FOR PCGS, NGC, NCS OR ANACS CERTIFIED COINS." So, if you buy the coin, discover the problems once you see it in hand and then try to return it, the "FULL REFUND" does not include any of your shipping costs and the seller keeps 10% of your money. That's assuming you can get anything refunded at all because the "FULL REFUND" does not apply to any NCS certified coin and there is no return privilege. Anyone out there willing to drop $1,000 or more to buy a pig in a poke?

I can see an area around the "5" of the date on the reverse that looks like it is of a different color than the rest of the coin, but I do not see anything quite as obvious on the obverse. If I am looking in the right place, was the "5" fixed after the coin was plugged? It looks a little flattened out. What about the copy on the obverse? I am a little surprised about the fact that this seller does not mention the problem. I have had some dealings with him in the past and found him to be quite helpful and honorable. The NGC slab says "Plugged, Repaired". I think it is around the 5.
grivna1726
The NGC slab says "Plugged, Repaired". I think it is around the 5. The "5" in the date seems the most likely spot. The obverse is more subtle, but the portion in bold of the "Б. М. ЕЛИСАВЕТЪ І ІМП ІСАМОД ВСЕ РОС" legend seems the most likely location.

Not worth anywhere close to $999 and certainly not VF+ in grade. RWJ

grivna1726
I also think the curls have been re-engraved on the lower left of the bust. They look odd to me as well. Here is the ebay coin, followed by images of 2 high grade 1750-SPB roubles found on the net. Compare the hair detail:
