mycorob
http://www.geocities.com/robbudo/1875offcenter.JPG This one has been in my collection for awhile. Is it off center a little bit or broadstruck - and how do you tell the difference? Thanks!
LostDutchman
its hard to tell from the pictures... it looks like it could be a broadstrike or a misaligned dies...
mycorob
Fair enough, it could be broadstruck, slightly off center, or have misaligned dies (MAD). How does one tell the difference between these errors? thanks in advance.
Vfox
It looks broadstruck to me. The extra rim on the right hand side is why I think so. Misaligned dies wouldn't be evenly distributed like the extra rim is on this example. As for offcenter, it doesn't look it, but hold it against a normal indian head cent, if it is the same size then it's possible, if it's a tiny bit larger then it is more than likely a broadstrike/struck out of collar. mycorob
It's broadstruck. The diameter is a little bigger than another Indian cent I'm comparing it too. It's also a little thinner, although I'm not sure this observation is pertinent. thanks.
