drwonga
Hello All! I thought I'd give another look at collecting US coins and was curious about the Presidential $1 coins. I noticed on the US mint site, they sell a folder to display them, with both obverse and reverse sides. I also noticed they sell the current coins in a 25 pack, and as singles. Is it normal to purchase the 25 lots or to purchase them singly? Also, how do you unmount them from the single pack to add to the folders? Of course, being a beginner, I might be going about this entirely incorrectly. Thanks for any info you got!
numismatic nut
I would buy them at your bank. The mint sells coins at more than face value, the bank dosn't.
moneydog
I agree with numistic nut. The only ones I get from the mint is proofs they come in the pack of 4. I want to get the bronze spouses in proof. But they are on back order.
Nightwing
I agree with both moneydog and numismatic nut. Go to your local bank and ask for a roll for each president released so far (George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison) and pick out the best of each. I went at the end of November to my bank and asked for a roll for each and they still had them in their safe. Even though the Presidential coins were first released with George Washington in February of 2007 the coins were so massively produced that banks still have some of each series in their vault. If you order directly from the mint your paying $35.95 for a $25 roll of uncirculated coins that come in fancier packaging then what you would receive at the bank. If you just want the proof coins they are $14.95 and they come in their own sealed case. I would then either put your coins in either a coin tube for the time being (like I am) or find a book that actually seals the coin in plastic. Others may have a different opinion, but the metals that these coins are made out of oxidize and can turn the shiny coin into a more brownish color (which many people prefer). numismatic nut
I buy roles and singles at my bank. At the end of the year I vaccum seal the roles in bags. As for the singles One I put in a folder, the rest I put in flips.
Dockwalliper
Go to a coin shop or bookstore and pick out a folder you like. Dansco, Whittman, etc. Get the coins for face cost at the bank. If you want both Philly and Denver coins find a trading partner here on CP like many of us do. Also, you may want to check out websites like Amazon or Walmart for such Albums. If you know of any coin shows in your area try to attend for the albums, not the coins. Stick with the banks.
