willieboyd2
Scotland's most important collection of antique coins has been stolen, police have revealed. The unique collection, which has been valued at more than 500,000, features pieces dating back to 1136, when the very first Scottish coins were minted. A total of more than 1,000 coins were stolen from the home of Lord and Lady Stewartby in Broughton, near Peebles. A "substantial reward" has been offered to anyone who can help recover the collection. ... "We would appeal to anyone who may have information as to the whereabouts of the collection or anyone who has been offered some rare and unique coins." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotlan...and/6283688.stm

willieboyd2
The plot thickens: But just as Lord Stewartby, 71, a former government minister, was about to start cataloguing his treasures in retirement, the collection has been stolen from his country home, Broughton Green, which featured in the classic thriller "The 39 Steps". Little else is believed to have been stolen from the house, where Lady Stewartby’s grandfather, the author John Buchan, lived. It featured in several of his books, including his best-seller, "The 39 Steps". Mr Holmes said coin dealers would have been tipped off about any of the items coming onto the market. Holmes is working on the case?

dprice
Your collection being stolen is almost the worst thing I think that could happen to someone. All the time and money you put into it. No matter how big, small, worth $1000 or priceless. My coins mean alot to me. I cherish every coin that I have. I hate a thief. I hope he gets his collection back. I dont think he will. He may get some pieces back. Its sad that they steal something they cant really sell. They should have stopped at the jewelry. The coins must have not been in a Safe. I wounder if the collection was insured????
