Constitutional status at time of issue; A part of the Gilbert & Ellice Islands Protectorate. This is an emergency banknote issue that was put into circulation on Fanning Island in 1942.The only denomination that is known is a green 1 Pound note,of which only 12 known examples are extent today.This is because the rest of the notes were utilised as theatre tickets at the local cinema.The note is a uniface one.The details are as follows; FANNING ISLAND PLANTATIONS LTD. FANNING ISLAND ONE (Pound sign) POUND (AUSTRALIAN CURRENCY) Redeemable only at the office of the Company at Fanning Island R.G. GARRETT MANAGER The note bearing the serial number 3067 is an example that is a short snorter bearing signatures of various New Zealand & American servicemen.
