Ukraine - German Occupation 10 Karbonetz from 1942. This was issued for a very tragic and disappointing chapter in Ukrainian history, the Ukrainians welcomed the German invaders as liberators - Russia treated Ukraine as a third class nation. But the nazi's soon showed their true colours, and soon even the Ukrainians would welcome the Soviets back when they re-occupied Ukraine beginning in 1944.

This note is a rag basically, it is almost in as bad of shape as Ukraine was left after the nazi occupation ended.

It is telling that the note was issued for Ukraine, yet only the bank's name, and the denomination of the note are in the Ukrainian language on the bottom of the reverse. When the plans were drawn up for this issue to be circulated the first specimens were all in Ukrainian. However, those were rejected, and the notes in the German language were approved for use. Ukraine was not meant to be for Ukrainians anymore, but for Hitler's mad eastern German Empire.

Thanks for the information. That's what most occupier or conqueror does. They change everything including the learning of languages in the occupied countries ranging from schools to banknotes. When the Japanese occupied most of south-East Asian countries, they literally change the culture which school begin teaching Japanese to school children. Taiwan was taken over by Japanese for more than 50 years. The older generation Taiwanese are able to speak, read and write in Japanese. Amazing.
