TreasureGirl
Okay, here are two coins: the first I suspect is from the Dutch Indies but I want to be sure. The (what I think is the) reverse is on there twice to make up for some bad photography. The second I know for sure is a Japanese 100 Yen, but how do I know what year it was? There is a two on (what I think is) the reverse in the middle of the Japanese characters. The "obverse" is pictured twice here for clarity. Sorry for the bad photos... BTW, any tips on photographing coins?
Drusus
oh my, cant tell anything on the yen...way out of focus. the top one is: Netherlands east indies km#317 1 Cent (1936-1945) do you have a macro setting on your camera (digital I assume?) . tabbs
the first I suspect is from the Dutch Indies but I want to be sure Yes, "Nederlandsch Indië" is basically what today is Indonesia. And the Japanese coin is probably from 1990; Akihito became emperor in 1989, and the "2" refers to his second year. Christian
Scottishmoney
On the Netherlands East Indies coin look for a small mintmark, these coins were minted in Philadelphia USA.
TreasureGirl
Hah, yep, there's a little "P" on there... These are a little better. And I'm having trouble with an Israel: how do you know the date, or do you just guess? Again, sorry for poor photography... Thanks!
gxseries
The Japanese coin is Heisei 2, which is 1990. Value is worth it's face value, which is like US 90 cents or something.

TreasureGirl
Thanks... I think. That is, if you're not making fun of my camera skills .20 at the local coin shop. I thought it was nifty, so I threw it in a pile of other shiny/pretty ones I was making (electricity was out at the apartment - was about 39 degrees in there, so I was just amusing myself with the foreign coin bin).
