Blackhawk
I got this one yesterday. The coin has a line of holes across the hair that appear to be part of a lamination of the metal. The line extends to the rim on both sides of the holes, but the metal in the holes has not fallen out yet. I'd call it a lamination error, but can't explain why the line of removed metal is in the shape of a chain...it could be a strike through, but then why would there be metal in the holes making up the rest of the line? Any ideas on this?
LostDutchman
it's a strike through.... looks like it might be rim scrap
LostDutchman
it looks like some of the struck through metal has been bonded and struck into the coin.
Vfox
it looks like some of the struck through metal has been bonded and struck into the coin. I agree, it appears to be the same metal, if you look past the very end of the mark on the photo of the left side you can see the edge of the scrap metal. Nice find!
