Uruguay banknote

Recommended Posts

Found this while surfing on the net oneday. Is this note for real?

It looks real to me. It is probably from the 1950's or so. I don't have my reference books handy but I do not doubt that it is real from the scan. If you look closely, it shows the "Thomas de la Rue" name on the bottom as the printer.

Well, here is an example from 1935 in a lovely shade of orange: Link 1

And the Green Version from 1939: Link 2

It is a pretty nice note with a lot of symbolism in it. Curiously, I have two 1963 notes from Paraguay that went from a version of Orange to Green as well in the 1960's. Must've been a sale on green ink at the printers or something. :ninja:
