The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) on Tuesday launched the 2007 Year of the Boar Almanac coins, which will be issued on Jan. 5 next year.

The coins are part of the third series of Chinese Almanac Coins designed by China's Shanghai Mint, said the MAS, Singapore's central bank.

The previous two issues were the 2006 Year of the Dog coins and 2005 Year of the Rooster coins.

As with these issues, the Year of the Boar coins will use a mix of traditional minting technology and unique color application.

Some of the coins will also feature the peony flower on the boar's belly. The peony is a traditional Chinese symbol of blessings and festive cheer.

The coins will be sold by the Singapore Mint.
