lapacific891
I was going through some old wheat pennies, when i came across one that had a mark that no other did. It is a 1926 penny. above the date, there is an imprint of an upside down "2". I dont know anything about coins, but it looks like it was from the press since i dont know how anything would be able to do this. I will take pictures if you ask. Is it worth anything? Mark Stilson
Was the imprint pressed in? Or does it stick out? And pictures would help.
lapacific891
yes the imprint is pressed in. i will have pictures up by tomorrow. Is it possible someone stamped it themselves?
GDJMSP
yes the imprint is pressed in. i will have pictures up by tomorrow. Is it possible someone stamped it themselves? Yes, it is even likely that someone stamped the coin. However, it is also possible that what you have is what is known as a dropped letter error. Pics would help, but such an error needs to be examined in hand to verify it.
28Plain
yes the imprint is pressed in. i will have pictures up by tomorrow. Is it possible someone stamped it themselves? Yes, it's likely that it was stamped with that mark after leaving the mint. Notice that all the other numbering and lettering is raised. Sounds as though it's a coin that someone stamped for their own purpose.
Dockwalliper
How big is the 2? Is it the same size and style as the number in the date? If not then I would say its been marked by someone after it left the mint.
