Ireland's first issue of postal orders began on the 1st of January 1881,as Ireland was then part of Great Britain. The first native Irish postal orders were first issued on the 1st of April 1922 as overprinted issues on British postal orders. The overprints were in the Erse language. The overprinted issues ceased in 1927 or 1928.The Irish Free State adopted a distinctive design incorporating a harp & the inscription 'Saorstat Eireann'.Ireland became the State of Eire in 1937,by which Ireland was governed internally as a republic, but as Ireland was also a Dominion,

the King of Great Britain was retained as head of state. This arrangement lasted until the 18th of April 1949,when Ireland seceded from the British Commonwealth & became the Republic of Ireland. The official last day of issue for Irish postal orders was the 30th of October 2001,but some main post offices such as Cavan & Monaghan kept on issuing postal orders for 2 or 3 weeks after the aforementioned date. This was due to a dispute with An Post (the Irish Post Office) by the Communication Workers' Union of Ireland.

As Ireland is a country consisting of 26 counties, the Irish postal order lists will be by county. Here is a link; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Counties_of_Ireland
