And another one: "Koorsboom" (arcacia xanthoploea) in english: fever tree, named this because when the first white settlers arrived here, they discovered that the yello bark would rub off to their hands when they touched the trees. In the same time they developed nasty fevers, so they combined the two. Later was discovered that the trees were harmless (except for the thorns) and that the fever was caused by malaria

What a great trip. My Tante Mol lives in Pretoria, and the jacaranda trees there must have been amazing.

Oh yes, they definitely were. If you're standing near the union buildings, and overlook a large part of the city, all you could see was purple streets, since there's jacarandda trees on both sides of ALL streets there....

 

Did you see proteas in bloom? They're one of my lievelingsbloemen. ;)

Steeple : Replica of a famous steeple in Belgium (I have no idea which one, T3)
