Got a couple of nice notes from the Isle of Man today - Cool castles on the reverses.

I like the reverse design. If only it can be view close-up to see the details. That should be interesting.

GORGEOUS colors, Dave!

Does anyone know the significance of those 3 legs. I saw them on some coins in PCI I think.

I believe it is called a "triskelon" and the meaning is that no matter how it is thrown [i.e., what happens to it], it always remains standing [it lands on its foot]. No matter what happens to the Ilse of Man, it will keep going on its own.

Or so I've been told...

They are referred to as the Triskeles, nowadays they are used as the emblem of the IOM, having been on the Arms of Lord Stanley who was then the King of IOM(it was suzerain to England, then Britain until 1765 when it was taken over by Britain). But the Triskeles are much older, having been used as symbolic of the island of Sicily in ancient times. It was often depicted on the coinage of Syracuse:

Coinage of Ancient Syracuse

As it was symbolic of the three points of the island in the beliefs of the inhabitants at that time. Like many symbols even the Eagle on the US coinage today, the symbolism is much earlier and can usually be found on ancient coinage.

Just added two new Italian solid 555555 into my existing collection of three other notes.

I am still short of the denomination 2,000, 20,000 and 100,000 to complete representating Italy in my solid 555555 collection.

Here are the scans.

Nice, See. Who are the fellas on those notes? I can't read them from 12,000 miles away.

Not sure as I have no time to investigate on them. One thing for sure, they must be the good fellas, famous and I don't remember them appearing in Godfather 1,2 and 3.
