jtryka
This first one I found today is a 1999 cent that appears to be struck through grease, though I suppose it could be another type of error: This second one I need some help. I've never even seen a 1984 doubled die cent before, but from what the red book says, the ear is doubled. I got this one a few weeks ago and it just looked odd. Is it a doubled ear, or just odd looking?
thedeadpoint
I don't see any problems with the 1984 coin. From the redbook, the doubled ear variety looks very prominent and i dont see that prominence in your coin. that doubled ear variety is the one i look for most on the 1984/1997 coins. Trantor_3
Here's a very clear image of the doubled ear: link
Vfox
Your 84 looks mighty odd though, almost like an ear is floating above the other ear, at least that's what I've gathered from the photos. Uhm, other than that, the faded number on the other one is kinda common, it seems like they filed the dies or something and nearly removed last digit, I've found dozens like this, in nearly all dates from the mid 80's on. Although I don't see much in the way of file marks, so it's very possible (and likely) it was struck through grease, or something as well. I've also found ones with an incredible amount of die polishing and files marks all over the reverse from the Philly mint. I guess quality doesn't count when you're making a few billion of something, right?.....
