grivna1726
The Dassiers of Geneva : 18th-century European medallists. grivna1726
...et fut réalisée en 1758 par Jacques-Antoine Dassier (1715-1759), graveur de la cour impériale entre 1756 et 1759. I think that date should be 1756. Dassier had a 2 year contract in Russia 1756-1758. The Empress rejected his rouble portrait die when the coinage was in production in 1757 and it was replaced that same year with the Ivanov portrait. It seems illogical that Dassier would then create the medal using the design previously rejected by the Empress herself. It seems far more likely that the 1757 rouble design was derived from the medal rather than the other way around.
