Also I have recently bought a d50 6.1 mp cam for higher quality pics but having alot of trouble focusing the lens at such short distance(I have 18-55 and wide angle lenses). TIPS...PLEEEEASE!!! As for the camera, with an 18-55mm lens you should be able to take pictures from as close as 10 inches of a subject. To get closer to a subject, you'l need to either use a close-up accessories(extension tubes or close-up lenses which look like clear filters) with your normal lens, or consider using a true macro lens. Does your camera have auto-focus??? On my Canon Digital Rebel there is a setting for manual or auto focus. With it set to auto, you push the button half way and the camera focuses the lens for you.
