How much do you spend...

How much do you spend on coins per month average? Is that a budget? If so do you go over the budget often?

I don't have any set limits. But I'm sure I spend at least $200 or more a month, except this month and the next few gotta save for vacation. :ninja:

A couple hundred also. It can go up some according to the amount of overtime I work. I don't burn up the entire amount but figure part of it as a "treat". Been slow buying the last week or so just because if time. Been too busy running.

Also saving a little for a quick run to the casinos in Louisiana this weekend. Seeing Little Richard there.

I don't have a set budget. What I do is take part of my quarterly bonuses and any reimbursable travel expense checks and put that in my coin stash. If I see something nice and I have enough I'll buy.

Also I like to save up for the bigger coin shows, one coming up in Sept in Orlando.

When I'm in school and can't work as often I spend about $30-$50 a week on coins, but over the summer, like now, I spend about $50-$120 a week. So on average $120-300ish a month. On occasion (such as Christmas or B-days) when I have a little extra to splurge, I'll maybe buy a nice type coin, which is about my entire months budget, if not more (if im lucky) hehe. :ninja: One thing I love about this site is the ability to trade coins without being shafted, it's nice to be able to trade a coin for something else you want and not have to break open the wallet!

IF, and I mean IF I can stay on budget, I spend about $100 a month. But 4 out of the last 6 months I have more than doubled that. This month is actually looking like a good candidate to stay on budget, but there is still time for me to blow it, which will probably happen. I am working today, which is my normal day off, so that is some extra OT money that I can spend. I have a few things I am eyeing on eBay, so I will probably splurge some this week-end.

My current budget is zero. Normally I try to stay in the $75-100 per month range and that includes books and publications. When I was getting some of the Large Cent and Half Cent books -- oooow that hurt.

Most of the coins that I really want now require multi-month savings for the lowest price stuff. Multi=year for the rest.

On average about $200-250 a month though I've been well under that the past six months. No particular reason except perhaps re-photoing my collection. It's almost like collecting them again! :ninja:

"Budgets? We ain't got no budgets. We don't need no budgets.

I don't have to show you any stinking budget!"

:ninja:

Actually, my "budget" program consists of...

OOOOOHHHHH, I like that coin!

RUN "WALLET"

1. SEARCH WALLET.

2. CASH > PRICE, BUY.

3. CASH < PRICE, RUN "BALANCE".

1. BALANCE < PRICE...END.

2. BALANCE > PRICE...RUN "MORGAGE DUE".

1. IF TRUE...END.

2. IF FALSE...BUY.

Before March: About $75-$100.

After March: About $10-$25

Started back into my other hobby of fish keeping. Three tanks already with a fourth being set up this weekend (shrimp breeder = money).

Have to admit, this is a great post!

I set aside $80 a month in cash, and when I have $500 or $600, off to the local coin store I go. Inbetween, if I see something I like (which is usually under $100 an item) I PayPal for it using my credit union savings.

But there is a big show coming up in Saint Louis in May of next year that I am saving for. I hope to have $2k or $3k to take with me to that one.

I don't have a budget, i wouldn't stick to one if i did. If i have the money and i like the coin i'll buy it. If i don't then i don't.

Same for me, it totally depends on the coin or situation. Sometimes I'll go months without buying something because the only specimens on offer are low grade junk.

Well, I used to try to stay on a budget, but that worked quite poorly. I was shooting for about $250 to $350 per month, and I might have stayed "in budget" for one or two months.

Then I decided to just buy whatever I felt like, the only budget question being "how much can I get away with before the wife notices?". Yeah, that went over real well :ninja:

Now, I don't have a budget, and I also don't buy coins very often anymore. I still love collecting, but I have become more limited in my pursuits, and, when I can afford it, I only buy higher quality coins with, IMHO, "eye appeal" (it has to appeal to my eye  ) Since higher quality coins have become quite expensive, I find myself unable to get a lot of coins. So I have a new (well, renewed, I guess) hobby - Photography. It's cheaper, too

I try to save about $200 per month but then spend it at one or two shows.

Under $20 purchases fill the gaps. Hence the birth year set

That's very true. Although in my case it's just whatever coins i am inclined towards are just not available.
