gxseries
Link Supposely if the mintage is like what he says, 68,888, I don't see how that price reflects the rarity of this coin. Perhaps an error in the coin?
ccg
It got hyped up by the big dealers, so it usually trades at $300+, while others in the series (esp. Rabbit) trade for as little as $
jello_g
The year of the tiger is the first coin in the lunar series and collectors hoarded it when it first came out. I admit to have participated in the lunarcy, but it seems to have paid off. The mintage of 68,888 is correct, and not even the lowest in the series. For instance, there are 60,754 of the year of the snake (2001) and 59,395 of the year of the horse (2002), yet it is possible to buy either of these on the market for under original mint issue price. It really is a beautiful cameo.
