Hi folks, I'd be grateful if anyone could help me on a coin-related matter.
I've just received a sovereign from a reputable bullion dealer. It's dated 1878 and has a Melbourne mint mark. The axis puzzles me because it's not like any other sovereign or half-sovereign I've seen - when the obverse is upright the reverse is upside down.
Is this correct for this coin or is it a fake? Or is it a very rare and valuable minting error?!
