  1. I've just received this: Uploaded at Snapagogo.com Greenwich Maritime Museum describe it thus: Medal commemorating the peace between Charles XII and Stanislas. Obverse: The arms of Sweden and Poland, side by side, crowned and joined with a garland above and palm branches below. Legend: 'VIRTUTE CONCORDES CONCORDIA INVICTI'. Exergue: 'SVECIAE ET POLONIAE REGNORVM AETERNVM FOEDVS'. Reverse: Starboard quarter view of a three-masted ship under sail, tossed in a rough sea. The stars Castor and Pollux above (left) and (right). Legend: 'LUCIS SPES CERTA SERENAE'. Exergue: 'CAROLI XII STANISL: AETERNA AMICITIA'. Made 1704 Mine is a copy. Possibly silver wash on copper, but probably nickel plated. I'm sure of the copper part as the edge has been acid tested, despite being marked as a copy. Which leads me to my question. It seems that KOPIA means copy in both Swedish and Polish, so can anyone identify this edge mark for me? Uploaded at Snapagogo.com
  2. Hi Pat. My worry is that this is a copy of the 1928 medal.
  3. Let's try that again: http://numismatica-italiana.lamoneta.it/moneta/W-ME29C9/4
  4. This has been floating around my desk for years, but I've only just started to check it out. Everything fits with the information here: http://numismatica-italiana.lamonet...a/W-ME61F/61 except for one thing. I'm really hoping that the letter C at the top of the obverse does not stand for Copia.
  5. Thank you stekatos, I'm sorry I missed this reply earlier. It is very probable that this will end up for sale soon. Pat, I was aware of the Roger Casement connection. My Grandmother was a Casement, but only distantly related.
  6. Ecce homo: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrington_Moore,_Sr.
  7. Another has come my way from the same source, and I'm still none the wiser:
  8. Would anyone have a Rulau to hand for this early 20th century.token? Obv. Francisco Suarez Valor 2½ Centavos Trinidad Rev. Departemento del Beni Bolivia Age, rarity, Rulau number & value would be of enormous help. Mr. Suarez was not a pleasant man.
  9. A timely reminder, the last time I tried to order that book I received something entirely different. I think Coincraft may have a few copies.
  10. Thanks Pat. I was so sure it was a mule that BHM never occurred to me, particularly as it has a 90º rotation.
  11. But do you have a wooden Farthing photobucket.com/user/bagerap/media/4441-horz_zpsc1fe1a6d.jpg.html][/url] or a wooden Crown?
  12. Here is a medal celebrating the marriage of Princess Alice & Grand Duke Louis of Hesse: And another for the opening of the International Exhibition: Both events took place in 1862, but as far as I can ascertain the happy couple did not visit the exhibition. Mule?
  13. I'm totally out of my area here, and can't find any information about these medals. The medal winner is slightly easier to trace. 10Kt gold filled by Dieges & Clust, 34 mm, 62gr
  14. This is pretty much what you see is what you get. A tourist type souvenir medal, unless it's made from silver or gold. In those cases they tend to be called "Civic Medals". Which is another way of saying tourist souvenir for visiting dignitaries.
  15. Interstingly, this is about as light as my scanner's software would go. I'd intended to try it with Photoscape when I have the time.
  16. For quite a few years. It's the medal awarded by the Company of Surgeons to their Professors of Anatomy between 1767-1800. Many years ago I saw one in pristine condition, mine alas is not so good. So I'm still looking for a better example. Bronze, 47 mm. By T. Pingo.
  17. The same seller is now on his third or fourth offering. Either he has a hoard or..?
  18. Try as I might to concentrate on one or two collecting paths, I regret to say that I am promiscuous. Always ready to be distracted by the next pretty face. These jetons have fascinated me for a long time and now I've finally found one in my price range. What amazrd me was the weight, slightly heavier than a contemporary 5 franc. I may be hooked.
  19. Ian, look again. The weights are in the wrong pans. Later, much later, re-strike I think.
  20. Thank you very much, it's all so much clearer now.
  21. Thanks Pat. This looks as if it may have been google translated from another language. Could you provide the source please?
  22. I saw this three minutes before the sale closed and vaguely remembered this thread. Thankfully it was cheap! Spot the mistake.
  23. This brass jeton appears to show Pegasus. AB EQUIS VICTORIA. Should be easy, but I can't place it. 28 mm.
