  1. They are out there , i won this one at the weekend.
  2. I recieved a certain item which was the cause of much discussion and perhaps disruption for which i apologised to the forum for with the exception of one individual. The item paid for immediatly on the 21st of dec was sent on the 5th of jan and arrived jan 23.Obviously i dont hold that one person liable for actual shipping time,in fact if recalled i bought a henry vi and edward ll a fortnight back and they have not arrived yet. What i do feel is accountable for is the time taken to ship it.Plain and simple. So i propose if said person would like to forward a paypal payment address i will make full restitution of monies in the same amount of time it took to send it after id paid. Cant say fairer than that.I only post here so the forum knows ive kept my word.
  3. I wonder how many other European countries had these war debts, quite a few id imagine.Paid in the silver coinage of the day, leaving us with worthless garbage really.
  4. I was always told a lot of the Uk Silver coins were melted down to pay the war debt after WWll , presumably owed to the US.
  5. Thats kinda what i meany by discounting mintage figures for pre 64 silver , thanks ,Im regretting selling as many Mercs as i did now..sort of , mostly kept the choicest ones.
  6. This morning the Charles l shilling arrived from jolly old England, paid on Jan6th and here in my hand on Jan13th , its nicer than the pic suggested.Another hammered for Mr B Ive only now noticed the reverse is clearly double struck.Top right of the shield.
  7. Thanks guys, thats really interesting.Does that mean we could or pretty much should totally discount the mintage figures for pre 64 silver do you think?
  8. Dunno Depends on when coin collecting/hoarding became popular i guess. Can you tell us more about the great melt of 79-80 please? I wasnt aware of it
  9. Beautiful examples Art , i always find it sad in a way to see what was obviously a pretty high grade coin holed.I have a half dime and a silver 3c both holed and it just seems tragic,i keep them though for the civil war connections, ive a couple nice civil war tokens too.
  10. Thats one of the finest ive ever seen Constanius , jaw droppingly beautiful engraving.
  11. I have several US Silver coins from the civil war era that are holed.Ive always been told the reason being was they would thread the coins on a string inside a coat pocket or similar so as not to lose it and also that silver has always been regarded as lucky, hence the jewelry idea. Some are elaboratly etched on one side making them whats called love tokens , given from one sweatheart to another.Notably most holed US coins will be from the civil war era.
  12. Your right enough though , once it starts history has a way of taking over a thread.I have a ways to wait yet before i can post any pics.
  13. Point taken deadpoint,if you like constanius we might continue our discussion in the community forum , nice and peacably of course , im always open to learning.
  14. Ive read she was implicated in the death of somebody, , she signed the death warrent for Jane Gray , commited treason , various other discrepencies.Hardly the sympathetic figure often portrayed in my opinion.
  15. I too always felt a great deal of sympathy for this princess, but the more i read ..she really wasnt a nice person at all by most accounts. Some might say she got what was coming even.
  16. Ive one for 1555 when it arrives..probably one or two others around the same time
  17. Today i took delivery of an AU 1922 Grant commemorative , pleased with that one as it is probably undergraded if anything. An 1895 IHC with full headress feathers details and Liberty , absolutly stunning. Im still waiting for the James l sixpence , its coming from the UK so 10 days isnt really overdue this time of year.
  18. Not a bad day mailman wise , the past two days he has brought packages from home so now that im sated with penquins and cadburys today he brought forth the Edward l we discussed the other day..sweet..i missed an opportunity to obtain a much better example just yesterday as i was caught up in another auction which ultimatly i didnt win so it was a double loss..bah.. Along with the Eddie came the beauty ive been using as an avatar , took a while to get here but it arrived today with its partner a rather cute scottish turner of a type i didnt previously have. I thought it magnificent those 3 coins arrived the same time , a real step back in time for me holding those. Also i got 8 brand new shiny 2009 cents , one of each from both mints , i subscribed and have the boxes of the lp cents but i cant bust one open just to see the coin , so i got these for display in the dansco (Dont tell Scott im putting 1c's in a Dansco,he'll have an anurism) Only paid 99c for the 8 plus a buck shipping.Ive a very nice old cent overdue , ill get pics when it arrives , somehow ive accumulated more than just a few of these.
  19. Thanks guys , for someone who doesnt collect pennies i sure am accumulating a few.Ive another due this week ill share , 1833 i believe it is , ill keep working my way back.
  20. Amongst the mail this morning was this wee gem.
  21. Absolutely stunning Mat25 ..when ive picked my jaw up off the floor im able to tell you that the Saltire is the X part of the Union flag on the shield mate. Beautiful coins Sir , ill photograph some of my UK stuff tonight
  22. Thanks TDP , its the one that gave me the gold fever , my silver and coppers have suffered for it but i cant help myself. My target for the year was 1 gold coin , im on number 7 as December rolled in......yep ..thats the fever alright.
