Picture of 1964 mint set.................will post as soon as photobucket is back up and running.

I believe (was told) that these types of toned coins come from a smoker's home. The JFK is self explanatory. Notice the steel blue of the nickel? It makes a beautiful looking coin but I wonder how the grading services would look upon it? The Lincoln is a much lighter copper color and again looks very nice to the eye! Dime and quarter seem to be untouched by the smoke.

  2. Yes, I know I should have posted in the link section, but meh,

This is by a Japanese coin collector, and his Russian coin collections are more than amazing, as he has most of rubles by year type, which are hard to get hold, and some of them are in PROOF condition too!!! Not to forget that he does have TRIAL coins too!!! :ninja:

    Sekine's silver ruble collection

    Enjoy! ;)

Thanks for the post!! GREAT site. His silver collection sure outweighs his copper collection, which I viewed since I am partial to the copper 5 Kopecks.

  3. It depends upon what your idea of "expensive" is (really).

Based upon their rarity, most (in my opinion) are relatively inexpensive as the series is (again, my opinion) underappreciated and undercollected.

They are classically beautiful in their design and most were issued in tiny mintages. I like them very much, but do not collect them, because I need to maintain some sort of discipline in my collecting activity.

Thanks Grivna for the most excellent reply to my 1st reply. Yes, I too lack discipline to collect a set of anything. I simply accumulate things that please my eye!

  4. This is a GREAT topic! Yep, I too have the check-the-change bug! Haven't come across anything lately.

I have in the past, thru banks and retailers, distributed hundreds and hundreds of wheaties in hopes of furthering the collecting bug, but heard nothing from anyone about where did these come from or a "hey look what I found". Wouldn't it be nice if we all would cash in, so to speak, our older unwanted or inexpensive coins in this manner to perhaps garner more interest in our hobby?

I have cans, boxes and bags of wheaties and am going to use them. Maybe these thousands will attract some attention and get someone else interested in coin collecting. Yes, I have checked each one (probably two or three times for the goodies) but there are quite a few in the teens on up with most being in the 40's & 50's.
