The one from India appears to a 1927 to 1928 Travencore Chuckram. (From my world coin book.)
Thanks for the Travencore tip - that made it easy to look up in my Krauss, but now I'm confused. I see km#43 and km#49 as possibilities. There is only one picture for both (presumably this is for km#43). There is slight difference in the characters at 7:00 on my coin (maybe that means it is km#49, but again no pic). KM#49 is listed as ND 1906-1935. Do you have an identifying number in your world coin book?

Got two needed additions to my off center memorial lincoln year set from Lost Dutchman! The 1963 is a beauty. The other one is rough and a little hard to read but I pretty much agree that it is a 1960 as labelled. I went through my lincolns looking at the positions of the numerals on all the 60s dates and 1960 fits the best - agree?

As a little bonus, the Dealer gave me a Washington dollar in change - my first one! I can't say that I really like the design, but I don't dislike it as much as many have expressed. The edge lettering is kind of cool.

I didn't need this Kennedy at all, but I really like the series. For $5.50, I thought it had some nice eye appeal, allthough it is scuffed a bit.

Had to get one of the Churchills for 50 cents - a notably 'ugly' coin .

It's been a while since I have had any new acquisitions. So I stopped off at a local shop and picked up a few interesting pieces - these are from the 6/1.00 bin.
A nice 1944-S Centavo with a lot of red remaining.
My first coin from Jordan. One of these days I have to start putting together a country collection.
Lots of luster on this one.
Don't know what this one is - obviously damaged but interesting - guess I will be searching Krauss.
From India I believe.

Received this 55 in change last week. It's in pretty decent shape.

....
After a summer at White Castle and 4 months at a skating rink, no more silver finds.
...
Ahhh White Castle - cheap, thin and greasy - by the bag. Didn't think they were still around.

The Caballito Peso. I have long wanted an example of this beautiful design.

I guess I am late on this one, but I got my first SD SQ in change today. Not a bad looking design at all.

Splendid collection of halves. I have exactly 1 Canadian half, but I really like the designs.

I retired this 66 year old Jefferson today.
-
My first purchases of the year turned out to be a couple of large hunks of silver...a 2007 SAE (previously posted in the 1800-forever, 1 coin per year thread) and this 2007 Panda.

Not coins but notes. Picked this up at the non-profit used book store for $1...
I don't collect notes and know very little about them, but this is loaded with some nice pictures and info.
One day I would like to get this note as a complement to the Bison coins.
I don't imagine I could get these 1979 prices though...*sigh*

AUSTRIA 1645
3 Kreuzer
Archduke Ferdinand Charles (I think)
PS: I would be grateful if someone could tell me the KM# for this piece.

Surface conductivity measurements anyone?
How do you suggest that "Surface conductivity" be measured? Using a decent Ohm meter, I can not distinguish copper from copper-plated from potentially brass plated - all give readings near .1 on the lowest scale, as I would expect.
Did a little bit of digging and ccg's memory is correct as Ken Porter's site sells some of these and shows a letter from the mint acknowledging that zinc can be inadvertantly dissolved in the copper plating rendering such a color (link here).
CopperCoins says that there is virtually no way to distinguish a brass-plated cent from one that has miscolored due to other contaminants.
Certainly there is a way of detecting the content of the plating, but I do not have easy access to any destructive flame mass spectroscopy whatchyamhiggie.
I shall keep thinking about this.
-
If I remember correctly, there are some "brass" zinc'ers that are the result of zinc getting into the copper for plating, resulting in a brass plating.
Hmm interesting possibility - I wonder if there is a way to definitively tell if that is the case with this coin.

Searched some cents today. I didn't specifically buy rolls to search but my cent coffee can was overflowing, so I rolled a few. Looked at a bit over 800 cents and found:
183 copper and 600 zinc.
Two coppers were wheaties (1955 & 1958-D).
Out of 30 1982s (D and P), 28 were copper.
Found a couple of filled mint marks and the only other notable find was a very brassy looking zincoln - shown here next to a typical 1994. Caught my eye right away.
Weight, however, is right on target with the zincoln (2.46 gms). Maybe I will do a specific gravity test, but I think it is just a zincoln that, somehow, got a weird color.

I finally got a good one for my new attempt at a US Type Set ...
...
Fantastic photograph!!

A friend of mine took a trip to Singapore recently and was kind enough to bring these back for me.
She also gave me these: that Ringgit is pretty nice.

Gotta love these new pig dollars

Picked this up after work today. Really gorgeous toasty toning. This is the second one like this that I have purchased.

Received my first SQ of the year. I like this one - reminds me of the 1935 Old Spanish Trail commemorative half.
