Picked up two of these because they were so darn impressive. I have long wanted a Maria Theresa Thaler - This is an incredibly popular design that was originally struck in 1740. As I understand, modern strikes (estimated 300M) continue today. There are a number of variants that can be identified by some minor design details - summarized well through this link. Both of mine are III-C-E-4-C as far as I can tell. This first one is so nice, I had to include a larger pic. This second one has some nice toning and is almost as nice as the first.

Well, not in the mail, but at the coin shop... This vacation and not having to go to work stuff is a pretty good concept. Got some work done, browsed a used book store for a few hours and, of course, hit one of the local coin shops where I picked these up... A nice $1 Australian silver bullion coin - I know these are common as dirt, but boy they look nice to me. Next, I scored this 2005 SAE, just because of the cool toning. I know, it's a 2005, so how could it have natural toning? Well, this is a very well-established and reliable dealer and the coin was sitting in the sunny display area in an open, fancy red fir, box and it toned on the obverse - I've seen them like this before. It was exactly the same price as any other 2005 they had, so what the heck. (OMG I bought a toned coin!). Finally, this 1966, 500L... I have a circulated example that I previously posted here link but this one is MS and *loaded* with luster - I really like this type - and, it was only $10! All-in-all, not a bad haul.

The Czech note with the exquisite portrait that I first saw on here... I may try and scan this at 600 dpi and print an enlarged portrait and frame it - maybe a 5 X 7 with a nice matte and frame

I don't know if everyone experiences this, but I found my tastes changing about the Barbers, I started to like them a lot - especially VF+ grades. The seateds, on the other hand, I am cooling on a bit - maybe because of all the pseudo types (arrows, motto, all combinations etc..) Used to be blah on Franklins, but I like them a lot now too!

I'm never really finished with these halves. Picked this one up today and I think it makes a nice addition.

A few days ago I got two of these in change at the coin store - both loaded with luster. Today, I received this wheatie in change. Not a bad circulation week.

This is a setup that I use and I am pretty happy with it. It was the least expensive unit I could find and works ok for an amateur like me. The stand could definitely be sturdier, but a copystand makes things a lot easier. The daylight bulbs they have work well too. Not the mailman, but I have my friends who travel internationally totally trained to bring me back some samples of the circulating issues. Received some nice issues from Croatia including this Bad-Intentioned Bear.

I have also received some interesting coins in change from coin shops. I always thought that it resulted from them buying collections and separating the coins that they would not be able to sell. Same effect, I guess, but slightly different motivation - who knows.

Tiff, you have to make it to a large coin show - you will have a good chance of finding those Dollars - at the Baltimore show (which I posted about), I was toen between two examples that fit your need - $190 each . That is going to be one sweet album when you are finished.

I received a drummer boy the other day and I too saved it Everyone knows they have a hefty mintage - consulting my newly acquired 2006 Redbook, about 809 and 860 mil for P and D, respectively (I notice that the Redbook has a typo listing the D as an S). When you consider that they were made for '75 and '76 the figures are near those for '77 and '78. But I saved the one from the other day...mostly because I don't see them very often

I have no gold and I want some. After considerable deliberation, I have decided that I want a $20 St Gaudens, a $10, $5 and $2.5 Indian. EF-AU with no problems is just fine..dates not important Not slabbed...there are several dealers that I trust (not so much that I haven't educated myself some on weights and specific gravity and common counterfits etc) as well as spending the last 6-7 months looking closely at as many as I am able to examine close up. Been very patient and sort of waiting for gold to go down but it has not been very cooperative. Hopefully, I will buy myself a big-@** xmas gift and then watch the Treasure of the Sierra Madre with my gold and chuckle. ... and if you ask me the question again after that, I will have another answer

The pickings for me have been very slim lately with only a single 1945 wheatie to my credit. But, it pays to make sure everyone at work knows I collect coins ... One of my techs got this in change and saved it for me! What a great snag.

Good question, but I have no idea - hopefully it is less of an issue than with the US trade dollars.

OK, not sure this belongs with all these fantastic high grades, but... I saw several of these trade dollars over the weekend, and had to have one. It has a lot going for it to be considered for inclusion in this august group. Nice devices on the obverse. Great ornate symmetry. Has some rather unusual aspects also...It's a "dollar" denomination from Great Britain...as Chinese characters and Malay script on the reverse...minted in India. I like them!

That's one of the most dramatic die cracks that I have ever seen
