  2. Well, this morning I tried to create a new way to make coins

and i did it for under 20 buck i present to you.... Solder coins!

I put wraped solder on a spoon, made a mold out of sculpie clay, backed it.

Took the spoon and melted the solder with a lighter then poured it in the mold. Then it came out real nice.

    PROS:

    Simple

    Cheap

    Easy

    CONS:

    Low melting point

    Not scratch resistant

    Probably will ware easily

    New coins found!

I found some newly minted 2014 "america the beautiful" coins, also some newly minted 2011 and 2013 ones, 20-30 bucks in silver coins and a new coin value handbook! So excited to check the value of my collection.

    "Mercury" Dime

    10c

    1917

    $10+

    US

This is Old Number One, the coin I have had the longest, the earliest, and nearly only, survivor from my first foray into collecting in the early/mid 1970s. This dime has been in my possession for 40 years now, and there it's going to stay.

Wow, that's cool! I'm supprized a dime can be worth that much. I have a few old Dutch coins.....
  4. So you want to do this for $90.00 since you want to have ten dollars change left. Well never going to happen. Wifey wanted a burger, fries small and sunday over the week end didn't get large size and no drinks. came to $17.00 and change. I have to second S I money, Can tell you that a minimum of a 50 ton press and still have to double strike.

Unless you want to hand stamp them after running the planchette thru a rolling mill then using hand stamps to imprint designs.

You can't even get a custom hand stamp made for under $100.00 There are a lot of coiners out there but they have the heavy equipment to make the gamer and fantasy tokens( commonly called coins even though they aren't)

The steel to make the dies will cost more than $100.00

My rolling mill is a small one and an import and still cost over $200.00 10 years ago, My hand stamps on clearance for a dozen in the set were over $30.00.

Here is the best place for fantasy coinage http://www.shirepost.com/wp/

Tom Maringer is the best guy in this business, He does use a Fly press for demo's A new import will cost close to $2,000 and old used one even more as the antiques are sought after. That is his site he can steer you in the correct irection.

Wow, um I'll probably have to save up for a few more months.

You can make a pressed cent type coin for less than a regular coin but it still costs to have the design completed and the dies made and then you have the production costs. You can still buy your own machine pretty reasonably but what would you do with it after you made a run of squished pennies/etc.?

I would store the machine or make more coins.

  5. Pic your favorite coin of all and show it off. I will have a visual example below but until then use the following one:

    PICTURE

    Name of coin

    Face value

    Year

    Real value

    Country

    *State

    Where you got it.

    Why ifs special.

    *optional

  6. Those 3D printers have a ton of possibilities. It would be nice if they made them, but probably won't until the printers become available to the public at low cost and individuals start making them. There is a guy making a car right now with one, costing around 2 grand in plastic. Seems like the end products can certainly be reasonably priced. We will see I suppose.

I don't think that's a good idea. A car out of plastic....... If the engine heats up slightly it would melt. Unless it's ABS plastic which can withstand a tiny amount of heat.
