  1. This 100,000 Dollar Gold Certificate is the highest U. S. denomination. Only 42,000 were printed. They were used only for transactions between the Federal Reserve and the Treasury Department.   5. It's quite common to have punch hole cancellation. Some Specimen notes are punch hole cancelled too. Recently I bought a rare St. Vincente $5 1917 note which has such cancellation.
  6. The purpose of new designs is to improve security, making it harder to counterfeit. There is no plans to redesign the $1 and $2 notes. I guess nobody bother to counterfeit these low denominations.
  7. I too see the faded bank name. Considering the poor condition of the note, the ink probably washed off.

  9. Don't know what the extra seal was for. Unable to read the writing on it. But the additional 21 character hand stamp on Madison's note indicates for use in Kiangsu Province. Should be Pick A5f instead of A5c.

  13. I don't trust SCWPM values. They are not reliable. The real market values are determined by how much collectors are willing to pay. I think prices realized at auctions better reflect the true values.
  14. The date is on the lower left in the front. I believe it's 2006/8/2
  15. The owner of the note insisted the star was part of the design, not drew in or stamped on later. Here are some high res images to show that the star does appear underneath the diagonal lines which form part of the notes design, clearly establishing that the star was put on the note before the design.
  16. The star seems to be embedded in the design. The regular £20 (Sir Edward Elgar) note doesn't have a star. So is this note special? Has anybody seen one like this?
