  1. Yeah there's something that draws almost everyone to that nice red color. I have only to get the 1923 red seal and my $1 type set from 1899-present will be done. I will want to upgrade a couple someday, but it's nice to have it this close to completion.
  2. It took me a while to pull the trigger on the higher price for a 1928 $1 United States Note. THese red seal legal tenders evidently had only 2 million o fthem printed, which is why the price is so high, and interestingly were mostly issued in Puerto Rico. But even though I waited it wasn't in vain - I got this on in the mail today: graded PCGS 63 PPQ and with a low serial number to boot! I'm pretty happy with it.
  3. Great note Juantrillo! Those Belgian Congo notes have some beautiful artwork, don't they?
  4. That is a nice 2 Pesos note there. WHile I like teh ABNCo notes, this one is just as nice I think.
  5. Saor Alba - A nice tidbit of information for you and others: A recent issue of the IBNS Journal had a story about the 1 Yuan note with the lady on the tractor. I always thought that these vignettes were allegorical or artists inventions but, in this case at least, it was based on a photo of her on a tractor. Evidently the lady (Liang Jun) was China's first female tractor driver. She was trained in 1948 at a school sanctioned by the Comunist Party and wound up working most of her life with agricultrual machinery. The note was first issued in 1960. She retired in 1990 and is now 80 years old.
  6. Neat note! French printed too, so DaveM will have to get one of these as well. Interesting that there is what appears to be indigenous language for the denomination on the reverse - First I've noticed that on a South American banknote. I'll have to delve further into that to be sure, though. Only thing I don't care for is that they needed to hire someone with better skills with Photoshop to color in the rear photo - it's certainly noticeable though! Is this part of a new series or just this one denomination?
  7. Well, my set has nothing on the one Jtryka just posted, but here it is anyway. BTW - I REALLY like those notes, Jtryka! Oh, yeah - here's mine from Zambia:
  8. Dang! Now that's what I call a Haul! Those are some seriously sweet notes there! Congrats - Big Congrats - on this set!
  9. Well, here's hoping that you got 'em! Be sure to post them when you can - Maybe even your whole set?!
  10. Both incredible notes, DaveM - but I really like that Djibouti note. Now that you've taken the plunge and got in in XF, I'll have to look for the low priced UNC notes and get one myself! - Yeah, right! Seriously though, Nice Notes!
  11. Got this nice numbered district note in the mail today. It's one of my few graded notes - PMG 64 EPQ. For some reason, I seem to have more difficulty getting the correct exposure on the scans of my US notes. They never quite reflect the true colors, in some areas putting in dark areas that aren't visible, while still too light in others. Likely a good thing for counterfeiting purposes I guess, but frustrating nonetheless.
  12. Nice Note Badin! ANy chance you can show the reverse with the women too? ALso, is there a watermark in the blank square area?
  13. Why, I do believe that that there note has go to be one of my favorite obsolete banknotes I've ever seen. And I don't think I've ever seen an obsolete issued by a city before either. I like the was teh reverse states "City of Mobile" -simple, prominent and attractive. But that front with all the symbolism - Very much a 'gotta have it' note, and one to snap up. Congrats!
  14. Here's another set that I've been needing to get to close some holes in sets.
  15. Nothing spectacular here, but ones I've wanted, but for some reason waited on for a long time.
  16. Ah, you just need to take the plunge! As our Admiral Farragut said, "Damn the torpedoes, Full Steam Ahead!" I'm still keeping an eye out for that note for you, my friend. One day I'll yell "Thar She Blows!" But gee, they're spendy!
  17. I see your good taste in banknotes travels into Iberia too, eh? Spanish banknotes are always a treat to behold aren't they? These are harder to find in UNC than one might suppose, too. Surprisingly, the prices dont' fully reflect that scarcity for those higher grades ... yet. Congrats on the new notes!
  18. Impressive as ever there, Madison! Those are stunning examples
  19. Got this in today's mail. It's much nicer than I had expected it to be.
  20. Nice pick-ups Jeff! Is that autograph by Danny Thomas the actor and commedian?
  21. Some new pieces came in the mail today. The Tunisian note has the prefix in what I'll call a 'English' fashion (for lack of a better term) at the top right, and the prefix becomes the suffix on the lower left for what I'll call the 'Arabic' fashion. I had this explained to me before as the language is read left to right, but the numbers I guess are printed right to left. At fist this seemed odd, but upon thinking about it a little, we put the Dollar, Pound, Euro, etc. signs before the numbers and always say 20 dollars - not dollars 20. Anyway, enough rambling about my observations.
  22. Interesting pieces of notgeld. THe imagery on those German pieces make one think about how bad it actually was then. This is also the first Notgeld I've seen from Romania.
