    BIAFRA notes

By "waste note", do you mean a note that was supposed to be destroyed and a replacement note issued in it's place?
  2. That's a nice note! I've always liked that design, and the portrait of the Queen.
  3. No idea about the box, but the banknote is not worth too much. About 5-10 dollars max in the present condition according to recent eBay listings and sales. The box is a curious piece that is worth more investigation, in my opinion. I've not seen one before.
  4. Nice Moroccan note DreamFLight911! It is one of my favorite Moroccan notes.
  5. Unearthed - as in dug up from the ground? That particular banknote is likely not worth much, even in UNC, I'm afraid, as they are pretty common. Still - tell us more about the unearthing of this note.
  6. Late in the day, but I got these notes in earlier. A new set from Burundi. Oddly enough, they said they'd issue a 1000 note later in the year instead of with these other four notes. I'll have to keep a lookout for it. These notes are all smaller than there previous notes and are graduated in size as well. New security features, etc.
  7. Love that Irish 20 pound note!
  8. Nice notes. That Shensi note is quite colorful on the reverse.
  9. Latest update: One was found with the 1961 date on Heritage Auctions - http://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/tonga-government-10-shillings-12121961-pick-10d/a/141411-31093.s#Photo
  10. Well, I finally had a chance to look through my catalogs and - I came up with nothing. I think this is likely a private issue note by a private bank, or an uncatalogued bank. Either way, there are LOTS - really - lots! - of banknote issuers, and while it's quite possible I missed it, I think it's just not cataloged. Maybe someone who can actually read Chinese rather than 'Match Up' characters in a catalog might come along and be better able to help.
  11. Chucky Lucky 4, Here's one answer - Pretty much what we thought. If you want, I can send the note scan to him, or you can through his link. - - I have not confirmed this date (04.09.1961) variety exists for the 10/- note, but I have confirmed almost 550 different varieties of notes for Tonga in The Banknote Book: http://banknotebook.contentshelf.com/pr ... 6000001EC6. I'm confident this is the most accurate, complete compilation you'll find, but there are likely many more unlisted date varieties to be discovered as Tonga changed the dates often. If your friend will kindly share scans of his note, I'll add it to The Banknote Book.
  12. I threw a shout out on the IBNS Boards. If something shows up, I'll let you know.
  13. Looks as if it should fall into Standard Catalog of World Paper Money (Pick) number P 10d, but the curious thing is that the catalogs I have do not list the date of your note. In fact, they skip 1961 altogether. I would think that this is a new issue found rather than a counterfeit.

    Radio Bit

I have to drive around every day for a few hours in my job. In so doing, I listen to various radio shows, and I hit upon a very short bit - "Record Bin Roulette" Whose episode titled money made me chuckle. It had a lot of snippets of songs to do with money in about a 4 minute piece. Some I remember and some I'd not heard before. Fun little piece. https://beta.prx.org/stories/68327
  15. A nice German 20 Marks note.
  16. That's a handsome note, Sarb. Congrats on the new addition.
  17. Ok - How does this look - anything like a Belgian 20 franc note?
  18. Car suspensions, eh? Well, I have checked it on several computers at home and at work.... all show the Belgian banknote. I'll try it again.
  19. I've wanted this note for a long time, just because of the ships on the back, depicting the battle of Lake Marabaibo. Don't know why it took me so long to get it.
  20. Neat little note there, I like the Laurel and Hardy - esque comparison. German to English via Google Translate: Indeed, once all round tummy everything has disappeared Weighed 200 pounds before now sleep now in the blow pipe.
  21. Finally found a decent example of this note. Hard to find them not looking like they's been drug through the streets.
  22. Love those Netherlands notes! Nice new set!
  23. Thanks, guys. I've been on a spree lately. Pretty soon I'll run out of money because i've spent it all ... on ... money...
  24. Well, Here's a note that wound up in my collection today. French West Africa 1 Franc from 1944. These are pretty common, but I don't see too many in this good of condition. The printing on this series of three notes is pretty basic.
  25. I'm sure it says somethin', but I can't be too certain what, exactly. It's in the old German script, and Notgeld is typically written in some type of dialect-ical manner that my middle and high school German can't penetrate enough to be worthy of more than a guess.
