  1. Received this new Hansatsu note today. Value is 1 Silver Monme. Issued by the Hansatsu Yanagimoto Han in Yamato no Kuni – Year 1830
  2. Seriously? I am sorry that you took offence at my post.
  3. Ah, yes, the root of our word 'Zephyr' for describing wind. I often forget about the classical Greek/Roman mythology referenced in artwork and older writings. I used to know more about the Greek/Roman gods, but that was "back in the day" and it's pretty much all gone. I do not remember Zephyr or any other wind gods, though. I do only remember seeing faces blowing on old maps - none of them blue though. Thank you for the explanation.
  4. That's one fine Italian note there, MauMau. But as I am not familiar with the painting, I have to ask: Is the fellow at the far right a blue Hindu God or a Zombie? Looks more like a zombie to me. Just kidding, of course, but if you do know, I'd be interested in the answer.
  5. Baxuss - Very nice set of notes there! I like that Greek one too! Nice coloring on that note. And you got another 150? Wow! I can't imagine going through that many notes at one time.... It'd be a lot of fun though!
  6. Oh, man - I just saw this note for the first time last week online - It was only in VF condition though! This is a wonderful note! Congratulations!
  7. This note came in today: Nepal 100 Mohru 1951
  8. Two lovely Irish pounds! Congrats on the new notes!
  9. Nice notes, DF911! I like the 200M note as it reminds me of many years ago in high school when I saw a film on East-German schools. In this film they seemed to make a big deal out of the 'Ring around the roses' playtime with the kids. This was such a big deal in the film that it seemed like they either learned it recently just for the film, or it was something they had great pride in doing. Seeing that 200M note, it must've been the latter. My mind made up after all those years.
  10. I found this clip art online - How about "Coin King"? Or you could get all Artsy and misspell it as Koin King. Ooh! - and then you could say "it's good to be the king" from the movie twice alluded to already. Link to coin king art
  11. Thank you MauMauNotes! I’ve always enjoyed looking at the collections on BanknoteBank enjoying the various notes in other’s collections. As for my focus – well it’s more blurred than focused, but for U.S. notes, I decided that I wanted a simple type set, and I also wanted to get a set completed of the $1 from 1899 to modern day. I am currently hunting down a decent experimental Red R silver certificate. I am not worried about the other experimental notes with only block letters to designate them, nor am I too concerned with signatures, dates, etc. I think my 1's will be pretty much complete then. There are some US notes that will likely stay out of my collection, such as the porthole five, the battleship 2, high denomination notes and others which are too much money – but who knows, maybe someday I’ll have them; it’s always good to have something to look forward to. I've also been trying to piece a large size Federal Reserve Note type set together. 50's and 100's all have a wide range in prices - all expensive. I used to try to focus on French influenced Africa notes from the 1950’s to the 2000’s but as they are quite attractive notes, they have drawn a lot of collectors and the prices are sky high on some of them now – all that I would want to get anyhow. Anymore I just keep an eye open for them. So I am now maintaining a U.S. focus, and tying a few Chinese private and local issue notes. However, the Chinese notes have taken off in the past couple of months and I’ve seen notes that I paid $35 for a couple years ago sell for 300.00 (just last week in fact). I hope that the prices don’t go crazy like the French African notes. Of course, I’ll always have a general weakness for just about any note that I find desirable.
  12. Macau 5 cents note. Private/Local issue.
  13. It looks like a Man/Crocodile concoction. In searching resources, it seems to be a type of symbol used to communicate the need for unity for a shared destiny. This makes sense considering that this note from the monetary union of the West African States.
  14. I like this note too - especially the back. It's a simple design, and I like that they didn't feel the need to fill the whole thing in. It really makes the note (in my opinion).
  15. Got this in today. It's a 10000 francs from West African States - Benin.
  16. Very nice! I like the old sailing ships on that Guernsey 20 pound note.
  17. Congratulations on the South Sudan set MMMM!
  18. Wow MauMauNotes! That's a good haul there! Some goo dnotes that aren't seen much too! Congrats!
  19. Got this Irish 5 pound note in teh mail today.
  20. Cool - I always thought these were just notes covered in foil. Thanks for posting this!
  21. Great note! I do like it, but I must remark about this vignette - I go on record here to state that I can't draw. Not even a straight line, and if I tried to draw a squiggly line, even it would turn out wrong. This, if nothing else, seems to be a qualifying factor in being a critic (just joking!) But one thing I've noticed is that there was a time when the engraving of animals looked a bit off. The lion on the left looks as if he's had a rough night of it and has just woke up and is staggering about with a hangover. The unicorn on the right looks at first to be from a modern 'My Pretty Pony' toy line, with the overdone eyelashes... the crown makes it's head look offset to the side of it's body... then looking at the legs, one looks as if it's emanating from it's middle, and the other from it's side. The hooves end in an elongated form like one of those creepy women you see occasionally in department stores with those super long fingernails - almost a cross of Dali and Hieronymous Bosch in style. But these are offset by the very lovely renditions of the ladies and miscellaneous guilloche/scrollworking. All in all a great note - and I actually like it all the more with the hungover lion and the ill-fitted unicorn. It's nice to see notes of this era from Canada. Thanks for sharing this note.
  22. Woo Hoo! That's a great catch Baxuss! Congratulations! A very cool two number repeater!
