This is the highest denomination of a set of notes, in the original wrapper that were sold by the city of Paderborn in Germany.

They must have liked this image a lot, there are 4 variations, 2 by color black or brown printing and the other 2 are a different picture on the reverse.

  3. This is a nice looking note, i will have to do some digging around it would make a nice addition to my collection.

This note has a stirringly mysterious vignette of a peasant with bundled sheaves of wheat in the background, rather haunting and ironic in effect. In reality the Germans managed to pillage most of the grain grown in Ukraine during their occupation and very little actually went to the local population.

When the Germans overran Ukraine they imposed a whole new monetary system on the country, the USSR rubles were removed from circulation at a rate of 1:1 vs the karbovnets denominated currency that they issued. The karbovnets was valued at 10:1 to the German Reichsmark. Curiously, but tellingly the Germans issued this currency with only a small amount of Ukrainian langauge text - on the bottom reverse of the note - in effect letting the Ukrainians know where they stood in the situation. The first notes prepared had all of the text in Ukrainian, but they were rejected by the German run "Central Emission Bank". One wonders why they even bothered denominating the currency in a name familiar to Ukrainians, they might just as well as referred to the new currency as marks given the presence of mostly German language on the notes.

  4. I have aquired some slightly different notes over the last few weeks.

This is damaged however I probobly could not have justified $700 for one in UNC so this for around $70 seems good.

  5. Very nice notes. I didn't realize the notgeld were running anywhere near that high.

Rarer notes are, Mainly in non paper. However I have a couple of paper notes that value about $300 they were nice pickups in a bulk lot of notes cost me 84 cents each :ninja:

  6. Thanks Madison, though from the various notes you've been posting here, it seems to me that you're finding some treasures as well! I have a long want list as well. But not filling it saves me money, and keeps me "in the hunt". I would hate to be "done" with the collection.

I cant think of anything more depressing than being done :ninja: That's why I chose German Notgeld as my main focus its just not going to happen but ill try only 157,000 or so notes to go ;)

De Orc, You can pick up common silk or linen notgeld in UNC for 15USD or so (Sometimes less i got some as cheap as $5USD but its not common) you need to keep an eye out though or you will pay twice or even more.

  8. Just made 2 new purchases. They are a little different to what others seem to be collecting so I thought i would put them up. I will get better images when the notes actually arrive.
