  1. Update? No, nothing to report in EIGHT MONTHS. A 1984 Trinidad Specimen recently sold on eBay Buy it Now about 10 minutes before I got on line! Damn, the only one I had ever seen and not in Krause either.
  2. I believe that set is a PL uncirculated set. Jamaicacoincollector - are you in the USA? PM me as I might be able to help.
  3. That is a fairly good one, and would likely fetch above 400 USD. The specimen uncirculated set is the very rare one, however. Nice that you have that one.
  4. Update: nothing to report. I am convinced the 2002 proof set of Jamaica exists but that there must be extremely few in the hands of collectors. However, I would not be surprised if a number may one day be located in a BoJ warehouse or perhaps at the Royal Mint. Really a shame as they could clear a few, although I do not know at what cost to them. The 1984 specimen set of Jamaica also exists by report, and an Eastern European collector has one at least. The 1984 specimen set of Barbados is also likely to exist: separately, I have gotten the PL versions of the $10, $5, $1, 25c and so almost formed one from scratch. It is also very likely that there are some other very scarce proof sets struck by the Royal Mint for other countries (like 2004 Falklands Proof set) as well.
  5. Can you show the "flat sides". Those pictures look to be end-on amdreally don't tell much. Perhaps it is of brass, and perhaps not even a coin at all?
  6. Yes, the direct approach is a good suggestion. I have a couple of friends from Nigeria that may know some additional ins and outs. Evidently the 1991 set was struck at the Royal Mint. I actually don't have a picture and not even listed in Krause. An interesting note with regards to the 2004 Falklands set: originally the mintage was to be unlimited, then dropped to 2500 & then the last figure was "less than 50". As they are essentially base metal sets, even some of these may have made it to the rubbish/dumpster!
  7. Although I collect predecimal British, I have looked for some time and to no avail for the following Royal Mint struck proof sets, and appreciate any info there might be about the sets in the wild (not just the Royal Mint original For Sale Ads): 1 - 1991 Nigeria Proof Set 2 - 2004 Falkland Islands Proof Set I did manage to get one of the 2004 Falkland Specimen sets which are very proof like, but obviously not Proof.
  8. No 1986 sets made according to all information I have.
  9. The reason for the elusiveness is that NOBODY cared then and barely anybody cares now. The Royal Mint made little if any profit on this, and may well have been simply fulfilling a contract. Sadly a matter of no interest by anybody. There are some other years as described above that may as scarce or even scarcer but suffer from the same malady.
  10. Yes, please do PM me if at all possible with pictures...
  11. Send email addy as I'm to pisspoor at posting pics and could use help! LOL.
  12. I just "refound" this coin which I had purchased for an unknown price about 10 years ago with no source recorded by me. I have not seen another in this denomination. Allegedly, the proof silver single 1984 10 Dollars coin had a mintage of 67 & the set quite low. This is the 2 Marlins breaching reverse & interesting has a date on reverse and obverse which I had never known the FM to do. I have never seen the 1984 specimen set, and not even aware of it being advertised at time of issue - I could only afford the pot metal specimen sets at the time. A Russian respondent to another post said he once saw a picture of the 1984 Jamaica specimen set - evidently much like the 1984 Belize set I had posted.
  13. Yes, the Guyana 1977 set exists, and believe it to be the matte specimen coin, and not proof like. The 1978 Guyana should exist but I have not seen it and it should be proof like. These are a challenge to collect if not so valuable. As far as individual coins: I have been able to get the following 1984 Barbados in proof like: $10, $5 and 25c I have been able to get the following 1984 Jamaica in proof like: $10, 50c, 25c, 20c As far as I can determine, the Franklin Mint made only matte uncirculated through 1974. They then started making specimen sets that they packaged with proof like specimen coins in 1975 and this went through 1984. They also made matte uncirculated uncirculated coins in 1975 and 1976 which were evidently released to the Central Banks of the various countries, but did not package themselves in sets. The Central Banks then did what they wanted with these 1975 and 1976 coins, and some they put into "sets". I got a Guyana 1976 like this. This was also true of Jamaica where they received matte coins of 1975 through 1977 dates (as they were only of copper nickel, they did not get a lot of respect and so were lost or destroyed - unknown fates even though in the case of the $10 coins the mintage was only about 27 or 28 pieces). I once got mattes of the 1975 and 1977 $10 coins for about 12USD per coin! 1977 and years after the Central Banks occasionally got separate uncirculated proof like coins which they did what they wanted with. Guyana did this with the 1c through $1 coins, and would package "sets" themselves that came in a light green holder. I have not seen the $5 and $10 Guyana packaged this way. Interestingly, Jamaica also was given the gold coins to distribute as they saw fit and so at least some 1976 $100 matte coins went out allegedly one per branch of the banks that are now known as Bank of Jamaica (BoJ). Some survived and other were lost. I have heard that some of the Guyana 1976 & 77 matte $100 went to the Central Bank down there.
  14. /Users/ericdawson1/Pictures/Photos Library.photoslibrary/Thumbnails/2017/05/19/20170519-020003/ZYwE1frZSy2XxeJl3%fTUQ/thumb_IMG_1463_1024.jpg Or how about this: /Users/ericdawson1/Pictures/Photos Library.photoslibrary/Thumbnails/2017/05/19/20170519-020003/ZYwE1frZSy2XxeJl3%fTUQ/thumb_IMG_1463_1024.jpg I can't seem to get these pictures. I have posted on Cointalk and Collector's Universe
  15. I have just gotten these graded & note they were attributed to the Royal Mint and graded SP66 for the 50c and SP65 for the 1 Rupee. PCGS Coin Cert#s: 50c - 83940068 1 R - 83940069
  16. None. Sorry, the existence of this 2002 set is but conjectural & neither the Royal Mint nor the Bank of Jamaica have further information to share. As I had stated, the other difficult set is the 1984 specimen set (the proof set of that year is quite scarce too). A bit frustrating, but I must say the odd bit does show up from time to time in the strangest of places.
  17. I've got the coins at PCGS for grading so will report and at least link to pictures as they are available. I have not been able to find further information on these.
  18. Yes, as he was sacked in 1976 the coins were pending and then evidently not struck for currency. Who had the contract? Well, maybe KN or maybe not as the dealer did not recall seeing these (although there were 1975 and 1981 coins for Seychelles struck by King's Norton). Will post if I find out...
  19. Weight: 33.12 gm. Silver proof: 35.52 gm. (through 1981 these were 37.90 gm).
  20. At the Baltimore show yesterday, I was told that no Mancham pattern coins were known to the major handler of the KN releases and so the origin is for now still a mystery.
  21. I try to always keep my eyes open, and was walking the aisles at the Baltimore show yesterday (April Fool's Day), and near the end of my ambulation spied what looked at first to be a proof 1984 Barbados $10 coin with the three dolphins reverse. On closer inspection it was actually a copper-nickel specimen that I have NEVER seen in over 30 years. It was listed at 200, but the dealer did let it go for 80. I told him it was specimen and why but he chose not to believe it. I will try to get a weight on this coin subsequently.... Still, a thrill. Krause erroneously lists an (M) piece - which stands for Matte. To the best of my knowledge, no mattes were struck by the Franklin Mint after 1977, or at least for public consumption. I say this because there was some sort of Franklin Mint Collectors Society or Club & the members were evidently and occasionally extended privileges of "special" coins/concoctions when they visited the premises (presumably Franklin Center, PA). I wonder if there will ever be a large deaquistion like with the recent release of the King's Norton horde....??
  22. Just to report that DNW have just sold a lot in their auction of one week ago that included two coins: - Seychelles 1977 One Rupee with Mancham obverse, evidently a trial piece not noted in catalogues. - Seychelles 1977 50c with Mancha obverse, also evidently a trial piece that is not noted in catalogues. These two piece appear of specimen quality and quite similar to the many trial pieces that have come to market in the last several years that were struck by the Kings Norton Mint in Birmingham, UK. I don't know if that is their origin however. I did an extensive internet search and was only able to find that DNW had previously in 2014 and 2015 sold similar two coin lots that appear from the photographs to be DIFFERENT coins. It is interesting to note that a common 1977 Silver collector crown was released with Mancham obverse, but otherwise no currency circulation pieces of either that denomination or any other could be found. Also interesting is that in 2014, the slightly inferior coins (compared to most recent offering) sold for 720 pounds & in 2015 the set was not really fought over and sold at 300, versus the last week sale price of 500.
