  1. The nickel ender rolls were from $100 worth of bank wrapped coins. Her Majesty found two Buffers this week, and three silver war nickels. Also found a nice BU example of a 1950 dime in $150 worth of customer wrapped rolls.
  2. I am waiting for the "controversy" ala the Asian looking lady on the $100 or the nude statue on the Vimy Memorial.
  3. An awful lot of these coins circulated a long time, they were high in the percentages in a survey done in York in 1841. As a result they are worn down, or look like they were used as grape shot during the Napoleonic wars. Thankfully though some collectors did set some aside though - which makes for the most affordable "huge" British coin. I have high grade circulated examples, and they price out like YoC pointed out for the penny an' more for the tuppence.
  4. The one that could spot the valuable coin in a huge lot is now 18 and has moved on to other interests like young men and starting college. She sold her coin collection off, at a nice profit, years ago.
  5. It is a PAXS penny and appears to be authentic. If you can change the lighting format in your photographs I should be able to read the reverse to give you the moneyers name and where it was minted.
  6. Watch out for the monsters you might create. I say that because my 8 year old has been collecting since she was just shy of 2 - largely by "appropriating" stuff she wants from my clutches. Now she is a roll searcher and trusty helper. Last week she found a dateless T1 Buffalo - her oldest Buff find. She keeps her finds and doesn't even discuss compensating me for them. Out of all my kids, with the exception of one of them, she is the only one that has stuck with collecting/hoarding.
  7. From last week, but Her Majesty opened these and kept the goodies for Royal self: The buffer has a mound on the reverse - a dateless 1913 on a roll end!
  8. When found was the oldest coin I had found, a 1901:
  9. All the war babies I had found as of March 2012 - there are lots and lots more now. A couple of months later I found 146 steels in a box of cents, most of them were AU-BU phillies.
  10. From a couple of years ago: Out of $350 in CWR halves that my credit union had just gotten in.
  11. Check the little small town banks too, I have done that and ended up with original 1970s rolls of Ikes in BU. Also got a Series 1966-A $100 in one of these banks.
  12. Her Majesty, aka my 8 year old daughter found her first 100 year old coin today, a dateless buffalo with a mound on the reverse - a 1913. She is stoked.
  13. It is about time that DPR Korea figured out how to get these things printed. Now maybes they can stop the howlin war rhetoric.
  14. Fair welcome an' a warnin' - only ah can hoard the Scots coins an a fair wee bit of Anglish booty twa.
  15. To some, particularly in the SE United States Native American tribes, this poke was a dictator who flagrantly disregarded John Marshall and the US Supreme Court and forced them at gunpoint to travel west on the "Trail of Tears": My Cherokee ancestors went to, well sort of... They took a "wrong turn" and ended up in the Republic of Texas and were given protection by their old friend, President Sam Houston.
  16. Love the Fijian note - I really like insects on money anyway. But back to my theme of Beauties on Banknotes, a first acquisition for me in some months since I take long hiatuses for other hobbies: A note I have been after for awhile, I have always liked the vignette of Britannia and her lion on the front of the note - but the beaver on the reverse is a completely unique subject. The unusual combination of contrasting colours in the layout of this note makes for an aesthetically pleasing delight for the note collecting palette.
  17. Aside from Canadian coins the most coins I find from another country are British, ie 1 penny, 5 pence and 20 pence coins. I even find them in Brinks rolls. The oldest British I have found is a tanner(sixpence) from 1949 that was masquerading as a cent.
  18. Believe me, She being the youngest of my children - She is Her Majesty. She is only a little bit spoiled.
  19. Her Majesty is also my 8 year old daughter.
  20. Another British 5 pence coin in change, the second one in a week. After Canadian coins the most coins I find from another country must be from Britain.
  21. Had a long traipse through the auction catalogue this morn and really don't care for what I see. As GD points out there is a big gap in the history of these that needs thorough investigation. A lot of the dies and hubs are rough.
  22. Nobody ever wants to sell at a loss so you hold on to what you have in the hopes of a return to the old prices. Either you buy more at a lower price to offset the loss, or you just bite the bullet and eat the loss. Eventually stuff that sits awhile is a cost by itself and must be moved to increase cash flow.
  23. I got mine from members that were spending time over in the sandbox, also got some of the then brand new Afghan and Iraqi coins. I am going to have to update my collection of POGS from what I see above.
