From what I understand, the only "true" matte 1922 Peace Dollars are the very rare and limited proofs of that year. I believe, however, that they were all struck in high relief, which is pretty easily discernible from low relief. A high relief is most easily compared by the 1921 issue, which were all struck in high relief. You can look at a 1921 and right away notice the way it jumps out, especially in the hair of the central area. Details are also usually much sharper.
