Nice addition Art! I think I still have a sheet of 32-cent Polk stamps around here somewhere that had the same nice printing and classic looking design. Meanwhile, here is my latest addition picked up from the post office this morning:
-
Well if it's too late so be it. It seems we could use another one so Scotto doesn't have to compete against himself, but what do I know.
-
For group 4, shouldn't Art's entry #1 be in group 5?

I'd gladly post the edge, but there is no place to put it on Omnicoin and I am out of attachment space! In the meantime, enjoy this latest one I got for my Dansco album yesterday at the ANA.

You're forgetting the 1804 date...
Nope, you're thinking dollars, they didn't produce any halves dated 1804!
-
jtryka,
I can't remember you posting many of those. Are you starting a new series or working on an old one? Now I want one of those!
Well, the draped bust are a short series, with the heraldic eagle they were produced only from 1801-07, with the small eagle reverse from 1794-97, these two are my 4th and 5th additions of this type, the others I had are 1803, 1805 and 1807, so only need the 01 and 02 for a date set of these.
-
Got these two in the mail today to add to the Dansco:

Art,
Canada has done a number of them in the past, those were all silver dollars, but some were only 0.500 fine, others were 0.800 fine. These latest ones are all $20 face value and contain an ounce of pure silver. The series done from 2000-2003 were part of a larger transporation series, so for each year there were 4 coins, one from each mode of transport: rail, auto, sea, air. I've only pursued the rail series. The newest series is focused solely on famous Canadian locomotives, and it started in 2008, so there arer now 4 coins in that series. In the new series, the first was the Royal Hudson, then the Jubilee in 2009, the Selkirk in 2010 and the D-10 in 2011 (this was also done on the 2002 issue I just got). It's a pretty fun series!
-
Mailman brought this today, the last of the transportation series that I needed from 2000-03!
-
No offense, but that Mexican 500 peso has to be the ugliest pair of subjects on both sides that I have ever seen!
-
Mailman was good to me while I was on vacation, got a new sovereign (only it's 98 years old) and two new additions to the trains on coins collection:
I only need one more coin from the earlier transportation series of locomotives, the D10 from 2002 which I hope to order next week.
-
It's been a busy week for the Mailman, got the latest addition to my Trains on Coins collection, the D-10 Locomotive $20 silver coin from north of the border, and today an 8-reale pillar dollar and a nice 1820 Bustie!
-
Huh, I had no idea the FRNs ever were redeemable for gold!
Yes, they were redeemable in gold until all the gold was withdrawn and FDR devalued the dollar. So any before series 1934 will say that the note is redeemable in gold or lawful money, etc.
-
Nice note Dave, I always like those "payable" in gold FRNs! Last week I got a pretty worn out 1934A from the Chicago district, nothing special but for face value I'll keep it!
-
What a great thread! I need to go visit the bank this weekend...
-
Looks like a real sharp one Dave! I am probably near your age and remember spending old silver certs and US notes when I was a kid, but now I save any small head note I can find! Last weekend I got 3 small head Franklins and had to put them in the pile to save! LOL
-
That's a cool note but a really ugly dude!
-
Oh yeah, forgot to mention I also got a series 1993 $1 star note too, but I rarely make a big deal out of star notes.
What did the mailman bring today?
