  1. Can anyone tell me more about this piece? I can't find it in my Rulau book (1700-1900 tokens). I know the usual from google on it, but given that it's similar to the 1884 NC Expo piece, I wonder if it had the same maker. Thanks in advance.
  2. Very sad news. In memory, I thought i'd post this item. It's a so-called dollar (HK-539) in silver celebrating the first American Airlines commercial jet serviceā€¦ with the first 50 in silver issued numbered on the edge, with the name of the collector to whom it was issued. My example was owned by Mr. Melvin Fuld, father of the late George Fuld. At some point in the near future, I will have NGC re-slab it so one can see the edge.
  3. I obtained this San Fernando Centennial Medallion by Medallic Art Co -- Silver piece (0.999 fine silver), edge #224. It seems to have a similar design to the mission medal series, but I haven't ever seen it before until now. It was issued in 1974 to commemorate 100 years in "The Mission City in San Fernando, CA -- 1874-1974." This medal was designed by Maria Altobelli. Given the theme, it fits perfectly into the mission medal series in my opinion.
  4. Having recently purchased a beautifully-toned set of 13 silver mission series medals in their original album, the empty holes appear to match the bronze sets. All the silver medals I have have serial numbers < 1000. The missing medals from both sets include: San Diego San Carlos San Francisco Santa Clara Santa Cruz San Juan Bautista Santa Ines San Francisco de Solano If anyone owns any of these and would be willing to post a picture, i'd appreciate it. I am still wondering if these were ever made, but without access to the Medallic Art Co. archives, i'm not sure i'll ever know.
  5. Thank you Bill ! Here is the image of the last page...

  11. I recently acquired a collection of 13 colorfully-toned Silver mission medals made by the Medallic Arts Company circa 1968. This post (while mentioning other manufacturers [uS mint] above) continues to focus my attention the medallic arts company medals. Attached is an image of the silver Nuestra Senora de la Soledad medal. I don't have it in hand yet to see of the serial number falls below 500 to prove if prior posts stating that only 500 copies of this medal was made. One thing I noticed recently is the name of "Papaleo" on several of these medals. I haven't found a description of who this artist is, but I am planning to look further into this. One of the medals (the San Luis Rey de Francia) has the full name of this artist spelled out, but I haven't gotten one of my medals out yet to get the correct spelling. Does anyone know (a) who this is and ( why several of the medals don't have this artists name engraved on them? I haven't found any literature reference yet to this person. I've also noticed several variations in the silver medals medallic art logos... can anyone point me to the variations in medallic arts company medal stamps over the years? Note that most of my newly acquired silver medals (that I have photographs of) have edge numerical stamps < #1000, meaning that the silver series of these medals were likely made in the number of 1000 (or less). The lowest edge serial number I own (based on photos) is #156 just FYI. I'll post again when I get the medals are research more...
  12. These medals arrived today, and ... surprise ... they have a side number of # 2221 ... both ... with the medallic arts co stamp. This contradicts the previous post info that they were produced in reduced quantaties.... unless the side rim number does not correspond with the total number.....
  13. Well, I guess my prior post might be premature. I recently purchased two new medals from this series online (don't have them in hand yet). I was completely shocked to find them. My hunt for the rest of the series will continue...
