if you stacked all of SIgi's discarded pitaki, it would form a column that would reach Jupiter
Not quite, but over the years I upgraded many of them several times and still do...

I like yours, Josh. it is quite nice. Peter's features and everything else are distinct. It has never been cleaned or doctored and sure would have a lot to tell. It might be an overstrike?

1778 5K looks alright to me. 1770 10K is a bit rough, I'm not sure about it.
As a general rule can be said that modern fakes are never that worn because they have not seen any circulation. Judging from the pictures the worn coins shown here are genuine. Seeing the edge however would give even more certainty.

Hey guys (in general on this thread......I don't want to come across as being ungrateful but i do feel the need to give some feedback as to what i've got from this so far. Hopefully i won't offend in the process as that is not my intent.
FEEDBACK:
Firstly, many thanks for the welcome. it is appreciated, and on a positive note I have been provided with reference sites for Russian coins and one for `copies' for which i am truly very grateful. I will be making use of them, even though my knowledge of Russian stems from one year of study some 50 years ago. Basically I would only just manage to order a cup of tea , coffee, or a bowl of borsch from a menu written in Russian.
On the downside however.....its all very well being told that some thing is not authentic but being told that without being given ANY data as to the `why' a conclusion has been reached.......Being frank that's as useful to me as a one legged man in an arse kicking competition!
So far no-one has given me even the slightest grain of insight as to how they have concluded why any of these items are not authentic.
I don't honestly need any of these items to be anything other than what they are (whether fake or real). However what I do need to know is how to tell the difference. ........Can any of you guys actually help me with that?
Bear in mind that if you give a man a fish then you only feed him for a day. However, TEACH a man to fish and you feed him for life!
Come on now folks...if the knowledge is there then how about sharing it with me....please?
Hi Ian, this is a matter of long experience. I have been specializing in old Russian coins for nearly 5ü years. There are many features. Take for one the letters indicating value and date. I do not succeed inserting links here, don't know why. Do copy it in your browser. It shows pictures of genuine coins auctioned in Russia. Compare and get an idea. Hi my old fried, your 10 kopeck looks pretty good. What makes you think that is is fake? Can you show the edge? it often gives away am otherwise nice looking coin, as many counterfeiters neglect it somewhat. See link for my coins. They are all genuine. Take care, stay safe, Sigi
link doesn't work. Copy www.sigistenz.com into your browser

Ian, those are not overstrikes but overdates. Not the whole coin was struck over, only the the cipher "0" was altered on the die. Mostly the overdate is rarer than the plain date. Looking forward to the close up of the date. Cheers, Sigi 😀

😀 haha nice joke. BTW - my coins are in BEBA Boxes. I can strongly recommend them. I have used them for at least 50 years, including my very 1st one. They are robust and don't do harm to my coins all of which are raw of course.

Agreed. Contours should be sharp. Note: Seller does not accept returns. Keep away.

Congratulations, dear Josh. Nice coins both of them. The 1796 is very interesting. And sure worth the price - in fact it is a bargain!!

I experienced that, too. Only thing to do is to try again and again.......

I have been buying from him many times. As he sells most of his Russian coins to Russian buyers, the Russian coins are in Moscow. For non-Russian buyers he has to have the coins sent to Prague first. It takes 2 months or more to finally hold your purchase in hand. But KATZ is reliable, trustworthy.

Very interesting theory I know too little of coin production at the time. Maybe the planchet was so uneven that striking did not flatten it smooth ?
What counts for me is that the coin's appearance is natural - not caused by heavy corrosion. Not a beauty but interesting.

The pits in the field is not corrosion - according to Mr Сергей Старовойт, author of Сибирская Монета 1766-1781, they are not uncommon for early uneven flans (1766, 1767).
See close up below.

Another important contribution to Russian Numismatics. My sincere felicitations, Sigi

Well, here they are, the 2nd one is a novodel. I don't collect novodely but included this one as it came at the price of a business strike Sigi

Yeah.. Moscow has a big outbreak and is shut down. Same here. I am near Boston, but away from the city. Hopeful for the BS to be over with. I have no work.
I hope you both get your coins soon!
Thank you, Josh. I'm crossing fingers for you, buddy.

I did not go for the 2kop1802KM, I have one in my collection, not as nice however. I am still waiting for the 3 coins I won in his March auction. On each reminder he replies that due to the virus they are stuck in his Moscow office. And that he will send them "asap" .

I'm watching that one, too

Im still looking for an 1802 KM 5K one year type bird! Any number of feathers is ok!
☺️
A few years ago these would fetch $1000 or more at auctions. Nowadays they cost less than 1/2.
