I'm done for now. Wake me up when you get to 1699!
-
-
I have a 1756 for you. Image is on my home computer and I'm at work so I can't post right now.
-
I'm done contributing until we hit 1699 (unless you can include currency)!
-
Wow, King AND Emperor. Sounds like George V was the man!

1787 FUGIO CENT (Pointed rays) (Cinquefoils, States United). Note to self - take a better pic of this coin.
-
Is that a token, or is that a trail piece?
Its a post-colonial coin. If you've got a 2006 Red Book, look on page 77.

Does this count as a coin with a ship?
1361-1369 Edward III Noble
Obv: Standing king on ship of state with shield and sword, in beaded circle, legends around. Rev: Ornamental floriated cross in octylobe, beaded circle, lions and crowns at angles, legends around. Even light yellow gold, nicely struck in all quarters though somewhat granular at rims, scattered obv. marks. (FR-95, S.1503)

Nice quarter.
Agree. That has to be one of the nicest '64 Wahsers I've ever seen.
-
Any thoughts anyone?
Quite a few, starting with this one..... Yeah, right!
Rule # 1 about making things up: At least make your story believable.

Hmmm! Nice Transylvanian coin gpnyc! Gabriel Bethlen breiter groschen?
That is correct.
-
My oldest dated coin.

Its a nice MS-64 but I don't think its Gem material. Fields look clean but way too many small hits on the high points. I'd be surprised if NGC gave it MS-65. I hope I'm wrong... good luck!
-
Well, the slab says MS-63, but the bag mark on the reverse alone would limit it to MS-62 in my opinion, then there is the black spot on the obverse somewhat obscured in the folds of liberty's robes.
There is a lot of chatter for a 63 but if it was only that, I would still call it borderline 62/63. I see the black spot - that does put it over the edge. Can you return it?

What's the grade supposed to be on that Saint? Wondering why you weren't "pleased."
-
I got the PCI5 prizes yesterday. Some very nice silver from some guy named Miller. Thanks Stu! I'll try to take some pics this weekend.
I know I won 3 categories but one prize would have been plenty. I may have to run some contests in the near future to "share the wealth."

It's actually not silly at all, but rather makes sense since the model 1911 was named such since it was adopted by the army as the standard sidearm that year, or so I've read.
You are correct. The design is still being manufactured and has been essentially unchanged for almost 100 years. How many things can you say that about?
-
Good luck with your set, it sounds pretty interesting! Why did you pick that year?
I wanted to get all 4 gold denominations in a matched set with the ultimate goal of putting them in an NGC multi-coin holder.
Why 1911? This may sound silly but its simply because I had to pick a date to work with.... and I happen to own a Colt model 1911A1 semi-auto. Sometimes things just present themselves and don't require any further thinking.

Filled me another hole!
I've been looking for a 1911 Saint in MS-63. (Putting together a 1911 gold date set in that grade). Yours looks to be a really nice 62. Congrats on another hole filled!

I'm way off the bell curve on this one. I see minimal wear and nice original surfaces fully deserving of an AU-55 grade. I guess I have no idea how to grade these.
What did the mailman bring today?

My latest purchase. I know at least one CP that will like this.
1830 CAPPED BUST HALF DOLLAR (Lettered Edge) (O-111, R.2.) (Ex. Jules Reiver Collection) AU-58
