Definitely post-mint damage. I think this happens when a coin is stuck in a laundry dryer for dozens of cycles.

Hi, welcome to Coinpeople! It's too hard for me to tell from the wear on the coin. I think it's more likely the the coin was struck by a very old, worn die which is why it is not as sharp as many other coins.Â

I do the same, Art. For years, I never touched my credit card except for emergency purposes. Then my friends pointed out that I could be gaining points the whole time. Now, I view it as a guaranteed 2% off everything!

I googled it. I couldn't find any references to a legitimate copper trade dollar. Looks like it's probably a fake. I think this coin was faked a lot since it circulated so widely.Â
