I don't thin it is a coin. I would say a medal as well. It looks like the loop is broken off.

Thats a lovely medal.
-
Very nice. They are quite large in hand too.

I too own a couple. One being the top one pictured the reverse of which can be seen here http://www.coinsgb.com/Royal_Mint_At_Work_1905.html along with colour postcards of the Royal mint at work during 1905.
I'll try and upload a picture of the other coin/medal here soon.

I'll need to reaserch it but what I can say is that it does say VILLA EDINBURGH so it was minted in Edinburgh.
-
I agree with Clive. Still a nice coin though.

Happy birthday, Scott!

Thats a great way to do it. I usually use pliers to break the corners off and then tap the side with a hammer. Anacs does seem like the easiest to crack open.

Lovely coin. I used to own one a while back, wish I kept it.

Congratulations George! DC looks great.

Are you interested in error coins? What is your thoughts regarding the current values for British error coins?
Scott Wren has written a really nice article on the subject viewed from the prospective of a collector from Australia which has just been published in the UK edition of Coin News. If you do not get this magazine, I have been given the permission to publish the article on my website and it can be read on this page: error coins
I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on the subject.
