If it is US, back in 82 the comp. was changed to mainly Zinc and the weight is less than the old copper cents. The grey is probably from some sort of paint/colouring applied by someone later on. Capt-AWACS Posted July 24, 2005 Report Share Posted July 24, 2005 yep, it is US and post 1982 so I'm thinking (like most everyone else) the very small amount of copper coating got stripped off and you are left with the "silvery" zinc colour. That's typical of zincoln cents. US cents aren't made of bronze these days, but of zinc. They're plated with copper. The plating comes off pretty easily.
