Art
I really like the designs. Some have such low mintages that they'll be quite expensive/challenging to get.
Mortyr2012
I really like the designs. Some have such low mintages that they'll be quite expensive/challenging to get. That´s right, here in Germany you can buy 2€ Commerative Finland 2004 (1.000.000 Coins) for ~ 10€ and that is a little bit expensive. The Commeratives from Vatican City are very expensive, now you can buy the Commerative 04 in ebay Germany for ~80€. I could swap with you these coins, but I´m not able to do it now.... Tschüß! tabbs
Interesting that the Belgian €2 commem does not show King Albert. I had been afraid of that ... but this design looks quite appealing. That coin should be out in a couple of days (mid-April). The new Vatican piece, however, will probably not be issued until late 2006. And those collectors who will get one may get it next year, hehe. tabbs
The website of the European Central Bank (ECB) has been updated with some pictures and descriptions of recent €2 commems: http://www.ecb.eu/bc/coins/comm/html/index.en.html (But the images posted here are better. ) Christian

smk
Did Vatican issue a Scool girl commemorative? The vatican euros that I have seem to be different. Here's a picture of the coins I'm asking about!!
Art
While I have no idea what a Scool girl commemorative is, the set that you have pictures is a "Sede Vacante" set. It was issued after the Pope's death and before a new Pope is installed. The Vatican has since issued a set for the new Pope.

Art
Thanks Art, Are they valuable as the originals? Not sure of values, but from what I can tell all of the Vatican stuff is pretty pricey.
Art
Well I got my Dansco album and blank 2€ pages. I've put together the album with only the commemoratives in it. I like it.
tabbs
You filled those "holes" pretty quickly, Art. Nice collection you got there! As for the common obverse, well, in my opinion that is right. Others however consider the other side to be the obverse because that is where the country name, or maybe the monarch, is. In EU legislation that confusion is avoided by referring to the "common side" and the "national side" ... And I see you have quite a few spots left for the next couple of years. tabbs
There will be two to four additional issues this year ... Finland - EU Presidency (?) There were rumors about such a piece, but FI issues a €5 collector coin on that occasion (instead?) San Marino - Christopher Columbus, died 500 years ago The coin will probably be issued in September. Spain - Pablo Picasso, born 125 years ago (?) Seems there are some legal problems with the heirs. Vatican - 500 years Swiss Guard The coin will probably be issued in late 2006. Christian
Mortyr2012
I think this thread is very interesting... Everybody can see all designs Art can show his collection to us Tabbs can tell us some news about new issues Maybe there are some other reasons, but these three are the best reasons, aren't they? Haven't read anything about the Picasso coin and problems with the heirs. That could be an interesting story. I'll check around a bit when I have a few minutes. tabbs
We have news regarding the Finnish coin. See http://www.coinpeople.com/index.php?showto...ndpost&p=225163 But I have not found any official source, so take that info with a grain of salt ... tabbs
This is the design of this year's €2 commem from San Marino (not available at face value though). It commemorates Christopher Columbus who died 500 years ago: The Finnish €2 coin is about the 100th anniversary of universal and equal suffrage (see this http://www.coinpeople.com/index.php?showtopic=5964 discussion): Both coins will be issued this month. Spain will apparently not issue a €2 commem this year, so the only one remaining is the Vatican "Swiss Guard" coin (draft image see earlier message). That should come in Nov/Dec ...
