Volodymyr the Great and his nearest milieu adopted Christianity at the beginning of 988. In Spring that year the kievites were baptized. It initiated the process of baptizing of the whole country. On the coin obverse between two angel figures there is the small State Emblem of Ukraine and inscriptions: on the German silver coin - УКРАЇНА and 5 / ГРИВЕНЬ / 2000, as well as the Mint logo on all coins. On the coin reverse in the foreground there is a cruciform composition depicting Prince Volodymyr-the Baptist on the background of the scene of kievites baptizing and the conventionalized inscription: ХРЕЩЕННЯ РУСІ.
